A hint please -- I'm moused out from googling. However, I've learned a lot about American 4 star generals and admirals!

I keep vacilating between South Pacific (pith helmet) and then North Africa/Sicily/Italy for the theatres of operation to narrow down the choices. Operation Torch etc seems possible because of the light quality, the light weight material of the clothing, the clay tiles on the roof, and the deciduous bark trees in the background.

It's going to hard to give many hints without giving it away. He's in the Pacific, that's Chester Nimitiz in the center and a Marine general to the right that I'm not going to name just yet.

His early success was not aniticpated because he was a cruiser division commander who would not have the experience to handle carriers.

The person asking the current question has to acknowledge a correct answer before a new one can be asked by the person getting the question correct.

The man on the left looks like Adm. Raymond Spruance, co-commander of the Pacific Fleet with Halsey.

I'll come up with something shortly.

Regarding the man on the right (and without revealing his identity), would it help to know whether he is marine or army? Are those three stars on his collar?

Jacob, that pic is on a book I read about Gen Allen called Terrible Terry Allen.

Gen. George S. Patton, Jr. is talking to a well known US general in this picture. Who is the other general?

Nope..... his country created a special rank for him, so he would not have an inferior rank to his British counterpart.

    Here's another picture
