Many German airman had more opportunities for kills due to environment, multiple national opponents and the German propensity for not rotating back and flying until injured or death. Some had been flying for years since the war began and didnt stop until the war ended or death. Some have flown on the Western Front, Eastern Front And the Med/Balkans. Quite a few Allied pilots were rotated home to share thier experience and knowledge with others. Which meant time that they were not engaged in combat.

I dont think any question pertaining to the war is stupid per se, so I dont fault you for asking . But I do think you need to ask your Mother more questions about your GrandDad dude! That's where the passion for history becomes so much more intense, when you can trace your family back, and share what your family did. I would strongly urge you to find out as much info as possible.

If I recall correctly only the Swiss air force was involved in any action DURING WWII.

I fail to se the point of this thread, but if just in case, I were ever asked, I would respond by saying the best soldiers were all killed in WW 1, thus leaving us with far fewer in WW 2.

I'm finally at that point, also, Asterix.

I've taken some advice offered and studied on it a bit and have decided to close this thread.
