Well you can always write them and tell them where they can get those programs. Not that they will listen. They program for what they think people want to see. And what they will think will draw the audience who will buy their sponsor's products. Hence all the lame programs about Nazi UFOs,Ect.They dont give a fig what you think.

Sry that was a wrong post but it seems that the essence of the channel has been lost, i feel it that wat. Of course everything is about cash, but you should limit yourself to some boundaries....i think.

I wouldn't be too hard on The History Channel, they just want to make a living like everyone else.

When they first started out, they figured they could make money showing real documentaries featuring real, honest-to-God history, but they quickly found out the overwhelming majority of the audience found real facts boring. Not many people want to watch the real truths, war production, construction of bases, logistics, etc. about history because they're just not glamorous.

The History Channel management soon learned that most people want to hear about crazy stuff that never happened, and couldn't have happened, like Japanese A-bombs, jet fighters that "almost" won WW II, and secret U-boat missions that might have carried top Nazi's and their gold to South America.

So in order to stay in business, THC became, like the rest of Hollywood, The Fantasy Channel. Can't blame them. Moral of the story; if you want to learn history, crack a book.

And I dont deny that LOL. They are a BUSINESS of course and not really like public television. But I have known many who have tried to contact them in quite a few instances and have never recieved a single response other then a computer generated letter. And you are right. Some of our least book learned members eat those programs up as if they are the Gospel truth. I was reading books way before THC and I will be doing so till I die LOL.

This post is either hot air or a waste of bandwidth, small it may be.

I've always enjoyed THC, but lately all I seem to find on it is shows like Monster Quest, Modern Marvels.... not too interesting to me. Last thing I saw from them was that 2 hour program on the Dark Ages.

Based on the question alone, yes.

Their historical programming is indeed that... at least, our international version of History is. I have not seen the original, American version.

With that said, there are a great deal of programs that offer little or no clear, credible historical information or inquiry. One must be able to distinguish shows about fantasy monsters from those dealing with tangible history.

Some of the stuff on the History Channel is great, some of it not so much. I worry that, as a commercial outfit, they too often are forced to chase ratings at the expense of programming that focuses in-depth on history. This is clearly the case with programs like "Monster Quest" or "Ice-Road Truckers," among others.

However, just to repeat, I have seen some truely extraordinary programming on History.

Well, that's what I mean. What does that really have to do with history in general?

Aside from the obvious lean towards the selling of ad space that is due any American network, I must say that it is wonderful that any channel still gives educational information via the boob tube.

Problem is whether it is educational or so distorted as to be counterproductive. Its contents are aimed at a rather low layer.

Yeah it's a stretch I know, but the first episode had the history of trucking up there! But it's mostly just fluff anymore. Occasionally there will be something interesting. But I take it for what it is, entertainment, that's it.
