I have a report to do in my high school...The report must contain the answers to the following questions. 1. How did the beaches of Normandy appeal to a soldiers eyes during the arrival from the sea? 2. How much of a aspect was weather during the day of arrival? 3. If possible, intialize and talk to a veteran who has served the American forces during D-Day. Give a detailed description of what the battle was like. For example, sounds, what they saw, strategic plans, and harshness of the battle. I appreciate any help given, thank you
Man I wish I got a report on this while in school, I would have been A++++++. Try the movie the longest day as well.
The first two questions dont make much sense. 1 - How did the beaches appeal? What? Well they looked nice but the bloody Germans had nicked all the best spots. 2 - Aspect of weather? It was overcast and grey. I think your teacher needs a dictionary for Christmas...
The BBC has a good web page on the effects of weather forecasting on the outcome of D-Day. You an find it here: BBC - Weather Centre - Features - History, Literature and Religion - D-Day Another weather service site provides the following: D-Day: The Most Important Forecast in History:MetService.com - Weather This website has a copy of a memo that Ike wrote about the weather on June 6 (remember: High School teachers love it when students quote primary source materials): D-Day - Invasion of Normandy - Operation Overlord Documents and Photos You might also contact the D-Day Museum in New Orleans (The National World War II Museum- A Must-See Tourist Attraction When Visiting New Orleans) for more ideas. You can also check with local nursing homes to find out if they have any resident veterans of the War who might want to talk to you. I am sure that you will find plenty of information there and you will be doing a good deed, too! Good Luck!
I would suggest doing a search on this site for most of the info, it may take you a while, but could return great results! If not here, how about here: Memoir (Page Turner): Charles Luther Blount: Experiencing War: Veterans History Project (Library of Congress I searched "veterans d-day diary" on yahoo, click here for the rest of the results! veterans d-day diary - Yahoo! Search Results and good luck!!
Read this thread, or at least the first few pages. http://www.ww2f.com/battle-europe/13272-sword-beach-bremen-veterans-tale-sapper.html It is the remembrances of Mr. Brian Guy, our own Sapper, who landed on Sword Beach with the British Army. You can learn much.
I have a Nephew who is in the 6th grade who chose to do a report on D-day I need help with this, this is something a high school student would write about and I have been out of school too long and ashamed to say I don't know how to even begin to write a report or help him. Any help would be helpful. Thank you
While we are not in the habit if homework help, I would suggest looking at the various links mentioned above. Take a look at Saving Private Ryan, especially the first 15 minutes. Good luck, and let us know how the report turns out.
Welcome to the forums. As Lou said, members aren't in the habit of helping others with their homework. If you're expecting someone to write the report for you, you're in the wrong place. If you are expecting lots of detailed discussion on specifics of Operation Overlord, welcome aboard! As for some help: if you're just looking for general information, Google is your friend. Try wikipedia as well, as its D-Day page is quite detailed. If you want more detailed information, search the forums -- there are a lot of in-depth discussions. If you really want to go "all in" for the report, pickup a copy of Cornelius Ryan's "The Longest Day". I hope this helps, and hopefully you'll understand that this isn't a homework help site. If you post some specific questions, I'm sure the members will be able to answer them. Best regards,
