what are the chances of there being another war i know USA and GB are at war with terrorism but a war on this scale i know everyone is in the EU etc.. but doesnt necesserily mean that someone will come along with a frame of mind of hitler anyone seen a film called Red Dawn?
I doubt it. If anybody declares war on a western country the will have nearly the whole world against them, so it isn't worth the risk, really. Then we have the Nuclear deterrent, also.
Not very likely. The only scenario that I can see is if China attacks Taiwan. That could get very nasty if it happened. David
Russia+China vs the west sounds like a big huge war to me. I don't think any country would dare to use nuclear weapon if a war of that scale comes about. America has the technology and manpower to defend its coasts, eastern europe would be in the hand of Russia, a good part of southern asia would be under china;s control. Unless China catches up with the west in terms of technology, her massive manpower would mean little. But you never know how fast things may change.
I think that the most likely scenario would be one not involving Countries but supranational unions such as the EU, The League of Arab States, the African Union etc.
God help us if there is another major war if the eurovison song contest is anything to go by we are buggered
You mean the one where the evil Russians team up with Cuba and launch an invasion in the midwest?!?! Never heard of it! Never understood as to why Oklahoma was the choice of such an attack and how Cuba got there... Not to mention the lack of US military presence.
I also have my doubts about a big war occuring but if so, then I agree with Mike with the Arab States triggering a fight against Israel. This woudl spur an all out war much like the assasination in Sarajevo which triggered WWI.
Due to the current state of powers and global politics along with the modern weapons I doubt a WWIII will ever happen.
Perhaps more of a mega corporate "dust-up". So many Sci-Fi movies have touched upon this scenario, you'd be in good company to think along. Robot Wars (giant individual machines fight for continents for land prizes) Rollerball (gladiator games between corporations which now run the world) Mutant chronicles (no more countries, just major corporations and Their armies) Creature (two corporations compete for control of space, the last frontier) many more...endless... Be it in a space race, or battle for supremacy using mercenaries, to keep hands clean. How do politicians (government officials) get elected? Through campaign contributions, be the pac's, gifts, corporate or organizational sponsorship, or individuals. 14 million spent for a job that pays 400K, for a max of 8 years ? Math does not add up. Reminds me of the "Godfather" "On this the day of my daughters wedding, I will grant you this one wish. Someday, and that day may never come (har har), I may ask you for a favor in return.
Care to elaborate on that remark do you mean the un as a whole or the un as a military force? british troops have served the un with pride and honour you ever heard of korea, or do you just say things you dont really understand
I don't know that we can ever predict whether there will be another large scale war. We have to hope that we will never see such destruction again, even while we remain prepared for it. If war does come, I think it will be motivated by loss of needed resources. If water or oil or land becomes so scarce that the world powers do not have enough, it could trigger a fight. Countries either need to manage their resources better or have a plan in place for when those resources are consumed.
I seriously doubt it will ever happen, and if it did, it certainly would not be conventional. Technologically speaking, the U.S. is vastly superior to most other countries.Look at the first Iraq war, and the second if you need confirmation. Their T72's were no match for the Warthogs, Apaches and M1's. The only tank that is equal to the M1 is the Leopard, and everyone who has it is our ally. I think, that war from now on will be on a smaller scale, and will become a more calculated, surgical event.
A few near future possibilities: One or another European nuclear power (eg., Britain or France) goes Muslim as a result of population demographics changes and decides to up the ante on radical change in the EU. Iran actually develops a nuclear weapon in sufficent quantity and carries out threats to annhiliate Israel. This leads to a general nuclear conflict in the Middle East. Pakistan and India have another go for some reason. China and Tiawan engage in a war and the US is dragged in. North Korea decides to start a conflict for some reason. Argentina has another go at the Falklands Argentina and Chile have another go at each other. China and India have a conflict. Russia enters a conflict with one of their previous satellite states (eg., the "Stans") Saudi Arabia has a civil war / religious war / meltdown over Islam. The US pulls precipitiously out of Iraq (eg., the "Obama syndrome") and a general civil war results that spreads to neighboring countries. The US pulls out of Afganistan precipitiously and a civil war erupts there and in neighboring Pakistan. Mexico has a civil collapse and the US invades. There's a few to chew on.
it is unlikely but by what tom clancy says it will be like this The unthinkable happens in 2016. A nuclear exchange in the Middle East kills 20 million people and cripples the world's oil supply. Crude oil prices spike at $800 a barrel. One year later, the threat of world-wide nuclear war is eliminated when the United States and Europe deploy a comprehensive space-based anti-ballistic missile shield. Russia soon follows with an advanced missile defense system of its own. Intercontinental ballistic missiles are rendered obsolete. Russia becomes the world's primary supplier of energy and experiences a massive economic boom. With its newfound riches, Russia quickly re-establishes itself as a major superpower and restores her military might. Western Europe, with the notable exception of the UK and Ireland, unifies to create the European Federation. This new nation is destined to be a formidable 21st-century Superpower. In 2020, the United States is on the verge of finishing construction on the Freedom Star, a controversial orbital military platform that will upset the balance of world power. The European Federation withdraws from NATO in protest. Tensions between the European Federation, the United States, and Russia are building and will soon reach the breaking point.
