    Lovely!

I have one volume of his war memoirs, "Rommel? Gunner Who?" (Tunisia and Italy). Some parts of it are serious of course, but his sense of humour is all pervading.

    Hi all,
    Spike was a genius!

He disliked Michael Bentine so much, that it caused his Nervous breakdown.

A superb and much-missed talent. You never knew what the hell he was going to say/do next!

    Well name the book...

One really sad thing about Spike was how after the nationality act in the nineties he was classified as not being British, having been born in India to an Army family.

Typically he dismissed it with good humour but did say "Well I wished you're told me that when I was fighting the Germans in North Africa".

To secure his residency in the UK he ended up becoming an Irish citizen, but what a way for the Brit Govt to treat a veteran. :(
