Vladimir Lavrinekov- Soviet ace

I read that whenever possible he would catch the German pilot and strangle him?

How true is this and if it is, how many did he catch and kill?

I think I have read an account of him strangling a German fighter pilot to death in a ditch after the German had crash landed. It sounded much like the account in The Blond... but it was a different source, and I can't remember the title at the moment. I haven't heard of any other incidents like the one described, so I don't think it was a common occurrence. It is hard to verify the truth in it with any certainty though.
