I like the idea of airsoft, but most airsofters I find are walts. They are often overweight middle-aged men who like to play at soldiers or 12 year olds who think they are cool.

    Get some service in.

It seems there's cultural or social factor in how airsoft is viewed in different countries.
I definitely agree that there are "geardos" or folks who tend to try to outdo the real thing and other weird folk in the sport and I won't defend them. They exist and much as others deplore them for what they do, they're there. Their presence or influence can often be minimized with a gentle word or two placed at the right time. Usually, they don't know that what they're doing is giving the other guys a bad image, too.
Most of the soldiers or military men who have seen action against rebels in Mindanao sometimes join us and teach us a thing or two to improve the way we move or think on the field. They find that their presence with us is very much appreciated. These guys don't brag about what they can do but like any human being, long for an audience that can appreciate their skills.

To the moderators, I suggest that this thread be merged with the other airsoft thread.

You cannot compare airsoft and war.

Airsoft is FUN (to those who do it anyway) war is not! Airsofters do not think that they are real soldiers, well most of them don't , i cant speak for the stupid ones. and they do not try to mimic war, we are missing the pain, suffering, innocent civilians, politics, sounds, smells, and all that. And we most certainly don't want to get killed, so saying we should enlist and go to a real war is stupid, we wanna have a good time, not die.

And to all you who came here just to pour sh!t on airsofters, what the hell does this have to do with you? If you don't like it, get out of the thread, we do not live our lives to please you.

And yes, i play Airsoft, own a cheap-o chinese ak47 (which has served me well, even though the screws are falling out :D) and a VSR sniper-rifle, which i am currently upgrading to about m150.

Edit: And you who have been through a war, and fought for real, i have nothing but respect for you, but you if anyone should know how horrible it is, so why do you wish it upon others? And isn't mimicing the highest form of appreciation, or something to that effect.

    I agree with Mibo.

In my opinion, it's a blessing that so many can "play" war rather than do the real thing.

"In my experience Airsoft and paintball are fine for learning some aspects of camouflage and small team tactics. The fatal flaws of both, however, are that:
1.) Since paint balls and Airsoft pellets have hardly any penetration beyond five yards, people start to subconsciously equate concealment with cover.
2.) Because paint balls only have limited range, people start to subconsciously think of anything beyond that range as "safely out of range" (for maneuver in the open.)
If you can regularly remind yourself about those shortcomings and adjust your training regimen accordingly, then you'll find that they provide somewhat worthwhile training. But it is essential that you integrate high velocity ballistic realism. This means declaring anyone that blatantly stands up in the open at 50+ yards "dead meat." Ditto for anyone that mistakenly takes "cover" behind bushes. Again, concealment is not cover!"

    Oh, so very true.
As for the training aspect, airsoft and paintball are not really useful out in the open.
However, when it comes to CQB, especially in the tight corners and room assaults, paintball and airsoft hold their own, particularly when low capacity magazines are used. I've had my share of pain when my fellows volunteer to roleplay scenarios with local law enforcement and security units.

well shooting a plastic bb at someone knowing you,re not going to actually kill them is better than losing your life or limb for no reason
