It seems we are trying everything in a diplomatic manner to prevent them from attaining nukes. It does not look like they are going to give up. Can we afford another war? I have doubts as we are already stretched thin and I look for Iran to retaliate if we hit them from the air.
Retaliate how? The only way they would be able to would be able to was if they attacked our forces in Iraq or Trashcanistan. Or invaded Iraq ,which would involve the UN ,or try to block off the Gulf. All not good ideas. Hell. Even the idiotic idea of trying to hit Israel in retaliation for a US attack would be a losing option. Their military is all bluster and a farce. How would they hit back? The "mighty" Iranian Navy or Air Force? LOL. They lack the ablilty to project any type of power Other then close by.
I know they have a lot of missiles and I believe they would target our Navy,Israel, and try to prevent the flow of oil from the gulf. I also believe they might be able to draw Syria into this conflict with them. It could get really ugly.
but we have many more! Nuclear tipped ones too ;P Kidding, but they would probably lead a guerrilla type war like Vietnam or the Insurgents in Afghanistan & Iraq I doubt we will war with Iran. Its too risky for the Americans(I am asuming this is what the war is directed too) and Iran isn't just going to give up everything to be destroyed on its home for.. what?
While a good ol' arse kicking is in order, going to war with Iran would be a political catastrophe and a military nightmare.
You are right. We have missiles too LOL. Lots of them. Not all Nuclear. And just one sub could make quite a few places in Iran a patch of radioactive glass real easy. The Iranian missiles aren't a major threat when it comes to the Navy despite all their claims. The same with the Iranian Navy and Air Force. Both would not last more then a few minutes.
Lets not forget that if they threaten to shut off the Gulf or the oil traffic that it will effect the other nations in the region and not in a good way. They may face some retalliation themselves. It would be hitting them in the bank accounts.
If, and probably when, it happens it will not be a 'war'. It will be a devastating missile and air attack that will leave the Iranian military with a Lee-Enfield between the lot of them. John
Difficult question. It's like asking when Hitler should have been stopped ? If we let Iran search for the bomb, it could be WORSE within a few years, but if we jump in, it will be bad too and we'd better fix our bicycles.
A US-Iran war? I think it's unlikely. Whenever there's some inflammatory declarations from Iran about their nuclear capability, those statements are really designed for their citizens, to make their leaders look good before their countrymen. On another point, the coin always have another side. I'll take the other side. Now what's the real problem if Iran has a nuclear weapons capability? Pakistan and India, both mortal enemies have had them for decades and despite on and off sporadic fights, neither of them used their atomic arsenal. The US and the USSR, also both heated rivals, never resorted to use nuclear weapons to settle disputes, even if their proxies were at each other's throats. China and the USSR, also had a series of border clashes, neither used their nukes too. These are all examples of two countries with clashing ideologies or religions. So looking at things from a historical point of view, I think Iran, even with all their belligerent statements, would resort to using nukes first if they have such weapons. The US was able to live with the USSR through the idea of MAD or Mutually Assured Destruction. Can't the US do the same thing with Iran? It worked once. Why not try that again?
Good to seeblind war-mongering is still alive and well. I love the way US citizens just right off a military without even knowing anything about it... Yup... you go invade Iran and give it an 'ass whooping'... Just dont come running to the rest of us when you get even more body bags coming home. How anyone can support the idea of attacking Iran is beyond me and makes me wonder at some peoples intellect. So no WMD this time... Just a 'maybe they will build a nuke'... Glad to see you aint at all paranoid in the USA. In short the whole concept is ridiculous. An attack on Iran would be an utter disaster in terms of public relations and US standing in the rest of the world. Gas prices would rise and most Middle East nations would probably begin to look at ended relations with the US. I imagine such attacks would be widely condemn by Russia and China given them yet more global support as a 'stable' option when compared to the loose cannon that the USA would be percieved as. Then of course there is the scenario of the US getting Israel to do its dirty work for it... Now that could ignite the entire Middle East. In short attacking Iran would be utterly stupid. But then so was the planning for Iraq, so I aint ruling anything out as far as mad George is concerned...
If you had noticed going down this page the majority of posters are not US citizens. But Yeah, thanks for the anti-US rant anyways.:birds:
Please explain how it was anti-US or is that just another case of paranoia? Or just carrying on sticking your fingers up... Nice attitude. I forget one isnt allowed to have a different opinion on here regarding US Foreign Policy.
Difference with Iran is that they have those little nuclear thingies they've been talking about, which is a huge step towards making a WMD. They have also said that they are building towards a WMD. In either case, the ruler of Iran is an utter nutjob, denies the holocaust and all.
Well Red with ALL due respect I HAVE 21 YEARS military experiance.. serving in Iraq and Afghanistan and Somalia and DESERT STORM and Kosovo... I work Daily with soldiers and ID be the one ultimatly bearing the brunt and putting My ass on the line... Would ya prefer the Iranians getting nukes and tossing them around??? Like i said about afghainstan and iraq id rather be killing the bastards in tehran then cleaning up civilians on Main street USA
I have all the respect for soldiers doing their job but what about the politicans? The evidence why the troops invaded Iraq was false. How can we trust the nuclear evidence here? I agree Saddam was a bad guy and the Iranian president a nutcase but is that enough reason to invade a country?
