I am from Ohio, and a warbird nut (I blame my father) although I am very interested in everything about WWII. I recently graduated College, and as a gift, my Father bought us both a ride on a B-17G (favorite of ours) back in June. This past weekend, I was also lucky enough to score a ride in a PT-22. I think my next ride is going to be on a B-25. I am also really into air shows, especially if they have any warbirds attending. I went to the Gathering of Mustangs and Legends in 2007, and it is sad that it is said that was the last one. It really was an amazing experience. I have volunteered the past two years at an airshow to help clean up after the pyro portion of the show. Gives you the BEST seat in the house (I typically have the planes flying 500 feet directly over my head), on the far side of the runway from the show. I have been toying with the idea of trying to find a way to get my pilots license and pick up a replica of some kind. If I ever have the money, I would LOVE to own a P-51 original, but that requires many millions of dollars I also have some videos that I have posted from both flight experiences: PT-22: I was "lucky" enough to get to start it. I have more footage that needs to be edited yet: YouTube - Starting a PT-22 First of 4 B-17 videos. You should be able to navigate to each one from the first: YouTube - B-17G Yankee Lady - Flight Experience - June 21, 2008
Crash -- Welcome to WW2F and many thanks for posting the photos and the videos. I hope you have more to post in the future and that you eventually get to your own P-51! Cheers!
Wow awesome pics. IM going to the indianapolis airshow this weekend and ill post pics... My son is a big warbirds fan for a 3 year old LOL
Yeah, next year I am going to have a few more shows planned out to visit. This year I planned poorly (Although graduating and starting a new job might have had something to do with it!)
Yeah, being a grown up isn't all it is cracked up to be. Although, I will say, I much prefer my work being done at 5 when I go home, and not having more papers to write, programs to code, and math to do! It is nice when the end of the day really is the end of the day! Second PT-22 Video: YouTube - PT-22 Flight The B-17 flight was amazing! I highly recommend it to anybody. Sure, it costs around $425 depending which organization is doing it, but it is tax deductible (at least ours was). You are on the plane for about an hour in total, with about 30 minutes in the air. Watch the videos, although it definitely doesn't do the ride justice. It was simply too much fun. Especially looking out the left waist gunner window and seeing a B-25 up in the air with you!
Welcome Crash! WOW! Great vids!! When I have more time, I'll have to look at all of them! Thanks again!!
Glad everybody is liking the videos. It is a shame that by the nature of the internet and youtube the quality is so low. I actually shot most of my newer stuff in 1080p. I am working on getting some of the right encoding settings to make them look really nice on DVD. I need some new DVD authoring software first though. If by just east, you mean 2.5-3 hours, then sure My fiance's parents actually live in Bay Village, so I do get out that way fairly often (although she is in IL right now for an internship). I am going to be going to the Cleveland Air show next weekend. Planning on both Saturday and Sunday. I need more pictures and video
