I participated in a thread & got 'shot down' because it was said that I had not read the thread or did not know enough about WW2 forums. As a newcomer to WW2 forums, It is expected that I should not know everything about how the 'system' works, but I was a little bit disappointed that I gave an opinion & was disrespected for my opinion. My simple statement was that I was a German worshipper. (I am not a Neo-Nazi or any Nazi!). To which i said this not a term that I liked to use! In retrospect. to use the phrase German worshipper to that link was to express my opinion that the Weirmacht were efficient in their warfare & not, in their opinion, that the Nazis were efficient in killing Jews & taking over countries that were inferior! To get this absolutely clear. I thought the Weirmacht were efficient in warfare only. THAT IS A FULL STOP! I know they took over countries that were lesser & I know all about the 'Holocaust' I have a basic general knowledge of WW2. There are aspects of WW2 of which I have greater knowledge, but to be disrespected for a minor flaw, I think is wrong. I know that they didn't know I was a newcomer, but they should have been a bit more diplomatic with me. Surely, from my name, they would have known that I am a new member!!! Let me know your opinion?

OK. They were not "Efficient" in their warfare and made quite bit of a mistakes and errors in tactics, strategy, logistics and equipment among other things. And in the end lost completely and totally.

Firstly it is Wehrmacht not Weirmacht

Secondly sadly the Wehrmacht\ Nazis were very good at killing the Jewish people within concentration camps, since after all 6 million are said to have bee killed.

I was once a 'German worshipper'(only in the military sense) as you put it, but after much research I quickly learned that they were far from better then the allied armies. Many of the allied tanks and planes were superior to the Axis ones, especially the soviet armour. The Blitzkrieg tactic was effective against lower rated military countries but just look at the Invasion of the Soviet Union, the blitzkrieg failed and there weakness as a military power started to show.

Yes the German armed forces were masters at defence in many regards and the SS soldiers were considered to be the best in the German arm, dispite having a bed reputation, but they were in no way the best.

The thing to remember about this forum mate, is that you step on someones toes, and they will step on yours.

    Oh and welcome:)

To the people that have answered so far, Thank you not knocking me down immediately & giving some constructive critisism! My first is to JCFALKENBERGIII.

Hi! At first the wehrmacht were efficient in their warfare, but as you point out they lost! Not that I needed that pointed out to me. Ha Ha!

Hi TOMCAT. Firstly, I should have checked my spelling of wehrmacht!!! As far as the allied army were concerned as being a better force. initially look at Dunkirk, we were routed! But, yes, I know the Nazis were eventually flattened! When you mention allied tanks, Russians aside, I think that the 'Wehrmacht' (Thank you) tanks were far superior, even at D-Day forward, the allies had a problem with them, luckily, we had greater numbers. As far as the planes go, the Battle of Britain said many volumes of aireal (I can't spell this either!) warfare. Later on there is no doubt that the allies had greater fighters (at this juncture I'm not getting into bombers, that's a different thread, eventually!). The P52 was a far superior plane to anything that a dwindling Luftwaffe had. The T34 (back to tanks) was the best tank during WW2 in my opinion. It was 'Bullet-Proof' LOL. & finally, I don't want to step on anybody's toes. If someone has a problem with me, let's chat like men, not like enemies!!!

What are you talking about? Everyone here at one time or another gets "gets shot down." That's part of it, you will have to deal with it.

If you make a statement of opinion, you should include a verifiable source to support your statement or someone else will, especially if they feel a statement is incorrect.

While some posters here are not at the pinnacle of civility, moderators are not guardians of a poster's feelings. As long as personal attacks and profanity are not used, you're on your own with the discussion. Be prepared to defend your own assumptions.

We have only a few veterans of the war posting on the forum, they are indicated by having their user name in blue and the title WWII Veteran beside their name. They have threads where they have provided excellent accounts of their experiences and they drop anecdotes throughout other threads where appropriate.

Hello I am glad you say that. Certain members should realize that virtual hospitality and tolerance should be something to praise and to encourage if we do want to keep some of our newest members.
On the other hand be sure to be able to provide sources when requested and be prepared to have an argumented conversation, this is the very essence of a forum. Also may I advice not being ambigious about the Nazis, they are not liked at all here so I'm glad you said you are not one.
We certainly do not expect any member, whether newbie or veteran to be 100% knowledgeable and a I am fully aware that a haughty and disdaining behaviour may hurt some of our newcomers. Aren't we all here to learn? Please be aware that negative behaviour is certainly NOT the spirit here. I have been on several forums on which certain members seems to act as it is there own, and one of the reasons I am here is because I think this is not the case on WW2F. Note for instance the many postive reactions you have received on this thread, including from members who apparently did neither mean nor realize to hurt you.
I hope you will take into consideration that there are many fine people ready to share postings with you and that you will stay with us to give it a try. Happy postings. :)

I think that Skipper has stated his response admirably, there's something in there for all of us to consider.

Martyn, please don't be too disheartened. As others have said, you must be prepared to justify your assertions and , in any internet activity ( in fact, as in most real-life activities ) you need a degree of robustness.

Also, any thread connected with Nazi theories, admiration, etc inevitably causes hot-under-the-collar responses. If you participate, for instance, in more mundane discussions as books, weapons, militaria, etc things tend be a bit cooler ! ;)

In our own defence, I will say that I have seen other internet forums which are quite ridiculous in their inflammatory and uncivil 'discussions'....

Martyn, first off let me commend you for doing the one thing that so many other people don't. You discussed your issue openly and without a direct attack against the person who "shot you down" Good for you for creating this thread, open communication is the best way to deal with conflict.
Second, the person who "shot you down" was our esteemed member Za Rodinu. He comes off a bit brash sometimes, so take him with a grain of salt. He will often touch on sensitive issues, but he will always keep the communication going, and he will agree to disagree if needed. No offence Miguel! ;) :otto::rodinu:

Is any newcomer allowed to put forth whatever he likes just by Divine Right? Or are members to be appreciated for the quality of their posts? What is the reputation system for, not to rate members according to quality? How long is the slack for a newcomer to be cut?

I myself recently published on one Georgia/Russia thread something that was justly remarked upon for being low quality. I apologised and on my own volition removed the offending post. I'm not demanding everybody to be as demanding, however I would appreciate if a more serious approach to study of the subject was taken.

By the way, IIRC the post that ruffled these feathers was http://www.ww2f.com/311338-post71.html . If this style and depth of knowlegde are suitable and appreciated, then that's all right, but don't expect me to like them.

At the time I gave this poster 1 negative point IIRC as a shot across the bows, for him to understand that higher level is expected. I had the surprise of seeing him, well, coming out in the open launching Verey lights, to avoid a more prosaic expression. It takes all sorts, I guess.

I have had similar run-ins with other members but they were solved with a couple of private messages. In the end I have corrected the issue by providing positive points as a remedial measure. That was not the case here.

Yeah, I saw that thread and decided to stay out of it because it was becoming a bit animated, and on the caustic side when I finally had a chance to read it.

In retrospect, perhaps saying you "worshipped" the Germans was a bad idea. Not everyone on here -but a great deal of us- have had Fathers, Grandfathers, Uncles, etc who had to fight the Germans, and we are very proud of them. So when you make a bold statement like that, we take slight with it.

NOW.....While the Germans were indeed a formidable fighting force to be reckoned with at one time, their plans ultimately and mercifully, failed. The only reason they got to the zenith in power that they did was because they used fear, intimidation and cold hearted ruthlessness to do it. Dont fool yourself about that Martyn, I've met too many people who lived under their rule for it to be any different.

But my advice to you? Lay low on topics like this for a while, until you get a feel for the group, and then choose your words a bit more wisely next time. You didnt do anything wrong, you just "brought a knife to a gun fight" as Sean Connery said.

I don't know how to 'QUOTE'. someone told me how to & it didn't work!

    To answer, my answers-

    SLIPDIGIT.

Thank you for your comments. Wherever possible I will try & back everything up with a verifiable source. I have learned. Thanks mate!

    SKIPPER

Ditto above! Nobody can know everything about WW2, but hey, what a challenge!

    MARTIN BULL

I will certainly never 'big up' the nazis again. I am not Pro-Nazi but there are things that I believe, that in future that I will need to back up. Thank you.

    OTTO

Thank you for your comments. I'm glad you've seen my thread that I was refering to.

    MORTMAN2004

I will argue back if I can back it up with facts. I prefer the word 'debate' than argue. Ha Ha!
You are the first person that I responded to on WW2 forums, so I hold you in high esteem, as you, firstly answered positively to my comments

    STEFAN

Nice message! I have had so much support that whereas before I was going to leave WW2 forums, I am now going to stay.

    ZA RODINU

How long is the slack for? I made a mistake, to which I'm sorry for.

Thanks for sending me a 'Negative' point, it has made me think & I will, hopefully, conduct my chat differently.

    JOE

But, hopefully, TOMCAT learned, just like I had to!

    KEYSTONE TWO-EIGHT

You're right, I took a knife to a gun fight (Its the first time I've heard that saying, but its not the last time I will use it. LOL!) From now on it's one step at a time!

    CONCLUSION.

Thanks to you all. I will now treat WW2 forums in a different way. I was too hasty to start on this site, so made a 'rash' comment. I am now in place to enjoy this site & looking forward to having some proper chats.

    Watch this space!

    Martyn.

I don't have any problem with you mate, I was merely correcting somethings that you said. :) The the others have said, take it as a pinch of salt, I my self had a nice argument with Za but Just like he said in his post we worked it out through private messages and we are fine now.

P52? Do you mean the P51 Mustang?

Also I disagree with you Dunkirk andb Battle of Britain subjects due to it being more then just better forces, for there was reasons why, but if you want to continue them, please read the many threads on those subjects, then if you still have something new to add then go for gold:)

I still do:D But lets not go into that again.

    Love that movie:cool:

I will back up Tomcat's statement that you should look up some of the other treads. There has been quite a few discussions on many subjects here. Some over and over Ad Nausem LOL.Especially the myths about the "Superiorty" of the German Military. It has been debunked alot. Also look at the little blue and green Reputation medals of some of the posters here. They represent what others here respect and think of thier imput, information and standing here.

Shall we just leave it here and give Martyn a fair chance to prove himself capable of posting quality threads.? From what I read he has Some qualities? which include amending himself and he has not meant to hurt and appologized to those who thought he was a bit of a Hussard. So let us not shoot the ambulance and start from scratch.
