My pick is for Florida to take it (not a fan). I just think they are the better team this year compared to Oklahoma. OK did have a good season as well.
With Ohio going against Texas in the Fiesta Bowl, it is becoming dangerous being the Texas Ambassador here in Ohio. But nevertheless, I will be flying the Texas National Flag. I may be an Aggie but in cases like this, I'll support the Longhorns.
Jeff, Whats going on? The Crimson Tide lose so your done with your Bama themed avatars? You still got a mighty good bowl game to play.
Lawmaker proposing bill to end BCS system By HOWARD FENDRICH, AP Sports Writer 15 hours, 13 minutes ago WASHINGTON (AP)—Taking aim at a BCS system he said “consistently misfires,” a member of Congress planned to introduce legislation Wednesday that would force college football to adopt a playoff to determine the national champion. Rep. Joe Barton of Texas, the ranking Republican on the House Energy and Commerce Committee, didn’t specify what sort of playoff he wants—only that the BCS should go. “In some years the sport’s national championship winner was left unsettled, and at least one school was left out of the many millions of dollars in revenue that accompany the title,” Barton said in a statement released ahead of the bill’s introduction. “Despite repeated efforts to improve the system, the controversy rages on.” He said the bill—being co-sponsored by Reps. Bobby Rush, an Illinois Democrat, and Michael McCaul, a Texas Republican—“will prohibit the marketing, promotion, and advertising of a postseason game as a ‘national championship’ football game, unless it is the result of a playoff system. Violations of the prohibition will be treated as violations of the Federal Trade Commission Act as an unfair or deceptive act or practice.” The BCS was created in 1998 by the six most powerful conferences. Since then, the system has been tweaked to make it easier for teams from smaller conferences to qualify for the top games. The sites for the four BCS bowls—the Rose, Orange, Sugar and Fiesta—take turns hosting a championship game between the top two teams in the BCS standings, which are based on two human polls and six computer ratings. This season, Florida (12-1) and Oklahoma (12-1) will meet in the BCS title game Jan. 8 in Miami. Barton cited Southern California in 2003 and undefeated Auburn in 2004 as examples of worthy teams left out of the BCS national championship game. “This year, we again have two teams with one loss each playing for the ‘championship,’ while two undefeated teams and four additional teams with only one loss will play in bowl games, but none can become ‘champion,”’ he said. When an Energy and Commerce subcommittee held a hearing about the BCS in 2005, lawmakers said they weren’t going to pursue legislation. “The BCS method of determining who is No. 1 consistently misfires,” Barton said Wednesday. “Simply exposing the flaws and subjecting them to discussion … hasn’t led to improvement by those who run the system.” Lawmaker proposing bill to end BCS system - College Football - Rivals.com
I've about run out of of new Crimson Tide avatars. Saving a few for the bowl season. You know how I like to change regularly.
First time poster here. Hope I don't step on any feet as I originally signed up on this site because of my love for history and WWII, so forgive me if I do. At any rate, I'm a life long resident of Oklahoma. As a graduate from Oklahoma State I'm hoping Florida puts it to OU, but I don't think its going to happen. I think Oklahoma will put a whippin on Florida. Big12 football is so much stronger than East Coast football it's not even funny. The Big12 south is stronger than any conference in the country! With that said, let the stone throwing begin!! Oklahoma - 56 Florida - 17 By the way, the information received on this board is incredibly valuable to my studies of WWII. Thank you all who post your information here. Steve
In a word . . . Ha! Florida plays both offense and defense. The Big 12 is an offense-focused conference. The score will be more along the lines of Florida 38 Oklahoma 13 That said, your heart is in the right place in wanting OU to lose! Welcome to the forum!
Welcome Steve. Good to have you here. You ain't stepping on anyone's feet by posting here, we're just having a good time talking about football. But, you are wrong. I'm no Gator fan, but I don't think the score is gonna be that wop-sided. We have another OK State grad that posts occasionally, but I can't remember his exact screen name.
Actually, I don't think we have any Gator fans very busy on this thread. Jeff has 'Bama and Mike has PSU. I lament BC's mediocrity every now and again but we three seem to be the only regulars here. As long as no Buckeye fans visit this thread, I am pretty sure we can all get along. How do those rings of Hell work? The 6th ring is for Hitler and his ilk and the 7th and innermost ring for Buckeye fans?
Well, as a Florida resident since the age of 1, I am going to have to go for the Gators.... even though my team is primarily the Hurricanes who, once again, didn't have a stellar year...
This, I agree with hahahahaha. I tried to rep you for that one but gotta spread some around. I owe you
I have to disagree. Oklahoma has scored 60 or more points in there last games. Also they have only scored less then 40 in two games. And one was there lost to Texas. Florida is not going to hold them to only 13. Oklahoma wins this game 49 to 35. P.S If by some chance Florida does win. They only win by 3
Well folks it's official. Penn St and JoePa have agreed to a three year contract extension, ensuring that the legendary coach will remain coaching thru the 2011 season. Yippy
Joe clearly wants to live out his days as a coach. Part of me is really happy for him, as I am sure this will help to keep him young. Part of me feels bad for the players on his squad if he dies in mid-season. They have enough pressure already.
Well, Penn St looked awful against USC this week. I expected a closer game as both teams seamed evenly matched in almost every category. I was absolutly shocked by Alabama's loss to Utah, but it just bolsters the points made every year towards the legitemacy of a playoff system. Utah worked hard this year and IMO deserved more than they were given. What are everyones thoughts on the bowls so far?
You were shocked? It was miserable to watch. JPW spent most of the night running for his life. The Utah pass rushers were beating him to the back in the pocket, getting there before the QB did. I was hoping more out Penn State as I am not a particularly big fan of USC/West (as opposed to USC/East, which the University of South Carolina)
I have been pretty uniformly disappointed with every bowl game. Alabama, Penn State, Boston College, most of the ACC teams (other than the Hokies) have all lost. It's been a rough couple of weeks football wise, because the Patriots did not even make the playoffs despite a good record and the Falcons/Matt Ryan lost in the first round. I am pleased that we are only 5 or so weeks away from pitchers and catchers reporting. Oh well, I should be studying anyway . . . .
