Is the F-35 JSF obsolete already? Flankers beats F-35 in highly classified simulated dogfight ? - Key Publishing Ltd Aviation Forums RAM
This says it all. "Simulated". How about in Real Life? Nobody can really say what the outcome would REALLY be until that happens and I for one hope that the opportunity never occurs.
Oh and I do want to point out that Im not saying either is better but that you can simulate all you want till the cows come home. But there are so many variables in Real Life combat that simulations are just that. They are not Real.
Boy it sure was highly classified huh? I think it's safe to assume I probably know more about JSF than most here since I interned with that project for a number of months while working on my degree. Trust me - there is a lot from this that's not being let out, i.e. the specifics of the single scenario where JSF lost. Much of the Flanker is still old technology. Even the new flankers - as impressive as they are with great thrust to weight ratio and vectored thrust, and all the whiz-bang gadgetry - are still old technology in a lot of ways when compared to JSF/F-22 level stuff. Even if they put their absolute best radars into the absolute best versions of the Flankers, few countries that would by Russian aircraft would be able to afford them. Even further still, many countries' pilots are nowhere near as well trained or experienced as most western countries. The variables abound, as many said there are too many to rest something on simulation. Even the Red Baron got shot down eventually.
Agreed Lippert, remember when Chuck Yaeger got into an argument with an AF general about what made the difference, the man or the aircraft. They arranged to go up with Yaeger in an F86 and the general in a P51, Yaeger won. They swapped aircraft, Yaeger won again.
PIAT beats Tiger Tank (not simulated) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Henry_Cain Major Cain got 4 of them !
