this idea. I was doing some thinking ( I might have pulled a muscle) and not being knowledgable on how much things cost to keep forums like this online. I was thinking of a way to help Otto a bit with the costs and was wondering if you guys would like something that you can get, that is for this forum only. Such as: a forum membership pin, (checked into prices to possibly get one made and I would have to buy at least 100 of them in order to sell them for a decent price) The pin could resemble a half-sized Iron Cross which would have black enameling and silver or gold trim on the edges and the words: (top) Forum (bottom) Member (Left to Right) WW2n.com. Would greatly resemble the Iron Cross award (nothing politically incorrect ((no Swas)). There was already support for a T-shirt--and im still trying to get with Otto on that one. Also we can go cheaper routes with Baseball type caps with either embroidered logo and ww2n.com or go as a transfer. Or we can do a bumper sticker as the cheapest way. Please let me know what you think? I would like to help Otto out with the finances involved with keeping the forums online. Carl.
hmmmm i like the shirt and bumper sticker ideas...not too fond of the pin though or hat (i never liked what those kind of hats looked like...they're prob those cheapy foamy ones) like the one little league kids wear heh heh . I think whatever design is decided upon it must not show just one side...IE german....since it is ww2 forums not the german ww2 forums you know? maybe a shirt with all the beligerants flags..or a bumper sticker with flags too...that would be cool! I'd buy that. in regards to the button...i know it has no swastica...but i still would feel wierd wearing an iron cross and i think others may be weary too...something expressing all fronts would be best i think
Great ideas Ron and keep them coming. Considering what may be thought of I figured that a more acceptable cross would be more like the(if I can find someone to make these affordable)is a Prussian/Tyrolian Campaign/Regimental Cross circa 1840s. It has four arms somewhat like the classic Ehrenkreuz, but not exact. Also, the arms are split up and in the middle is a rectangle box with a soldier marching directly at you and he is wearing the uniform of a soldier of Napoleons time. It does look rather nice for a Regimental badge. The badge is made of a silvery metal. What I was thinking of was to have top are saying: "Forum" bottom are: "Member" left are: "WW2N and right arm saying .com It would be a pin about 3/4 or 1/2 inch in size. However--checking on a few places on making this pin would cost appx $700.00 and I would have to order a minimum of 250. Could also have the pin numbered, and would make for an instant collectable--as there would be no more thasn 250 made (since I couldnt afford it) The pin would actuall look more British or Frainch--in design--and nobody would ever be able to see that it was in reference to a German Regiment. Besides--ALL European Military uniforms at that time was basically the same--just minor differences in placement of buttons or colors--things like that. In order to make my money back on that--I would have to sell these pins at a minimum of $20.00 each--which is WAYYYYY too much higher that I envisioned. Actually I was thinking of $5--to $10.00 at the highest--for these. I would have to sell at least 70 of these at $10.00 each--just to break even. Now if I can get them done for a much lower price--then I could sell them at $5.00. Also if the price is different--say if it had to be $10.00 for one--then I would make a deal and sell two at $15.00. I have done alot of research on having caps made, and found that that is not feasable. I think for now--T-Shirts and Bumper Stickers and maybe hand embroidered patches--are the way to go. Anyway--im always looking for more feedback into this and any better ideas. [ 10 May 2002, 04:18 PM: Message edited by: C.Evans ]
Whatever you decide to go with sounds fine to me. I like the shirt and bumper sticker idea myself. The pin sounds nice but I dont think I would ever wear it. I also like the embrodered patch idea.
Whatever you guys come out with I'll buy it. I would do anything to support the forum. This place is like a home away from home to me.But let me float this idea past you guys ww2n boxer shorts. Yeah I know it sounds stupid, but if anyone needs some help in anyway I'd be glad to lend a hand.
HA but that would stink...only you, your girlfriend/wife and maybe your mom will see them! heh heh I still say a shirt or bumper sticker representing all flags would be best.
Keep the ideas flowing...I like what I see here. I think that by popular opinion so far--that it will be bumper stickers and T-shirts--possibly an embroidered patch. Im still doing research on the expenses of having stickers made as well as the T-shirts. The embroidered patch I do know someone who can do them--I just have no pricing yet. Anyway--if YOU have something that you think we can use--let me know by emailing me at: Kriegsmarine1944@hotmail.com (this is one of 5 email addresses I have to have due to volume of good and bad mails I get daily) and if VERY interested--in sending me a design idea--there ill give out my snailmail address.
I know i am a little late Carl-but i still think that the TDB design i have would be a good feature for a T-Shirt or something of that sort.
I go along with Panzergrenadiere here. Erm . . not the boxer shorts ! I mean the 'I'd buy anything to help...home away from home' bit. A gentle word of warning from one who was once heavily involved with a car club. Everyone says 'Yeah, great, I'd buy a T-shirt' ( or whatever ). You have 100 made up and then - hey presto! Everyone's disappeared into the woodwork and you've got a box of (whatevers) sitting in your spare room. I'm just an old cynic though ; wouldn't happen here !
Well, I can always use Tshirts. Make sure they are XL at least. They have to hide my beer gut. Personally I have nu use for a bumpersticker...I have no car. Geez, this is difficult...to come up with stuff that will be easy to produce and not too expensive....Let everybody here choose their favorite WW2 picture (free of copyright, hehe, try that one) and make a lovely (birthday)calander out of it.....
OK, ill go with the T-Shirt Idea. Bumper Stickers are out (for now) Now if we do a TDB design, I think it should be with the TDBs ptinted on the right shirt sleeve (as the originals were mounted) and have 1-5 TDBs?? Let me know what you think of that. I also think that a few awards should also be printed on the front of the tshirt as well--like a Panzer Assault Badge, an Iron Cross first class and maybe a Wound Badge in Gold as the decorations on front (denazified of course as in some countries--the wearer might get in trouble, and I dont want that to happen). Send my more thoughts--this is a budding idea.
I'm OK with the T-Shirt - even better, one of those nice Lacoste-type polo shirts. They last longer, are more expensive - but that should mean a bigger markup for the forum. Not tooo sure about badges and awards ( treading carefully here as I know C.Evans collects 'em ! ). We may stray into areas of national....er, difficulty. OK - here's my badge idea. Being English, I'm into 'low-key' so I'd like the WW2 Forums logo over the outline of a Tiger 1. I'd buy a couple of these now . ( Why a Tiger ? Every time one gets mentioned, the forum bursts into life ! )
I guess I am not that hip to T-shirt lingo: What does TDB mean? As to what to print onto it; I guess I am a sucker for making the design as authentic/retro as possible....as to what actually, Hmmm....that's another one. I do kind get attached to the SS Panzer-grenadiers camoflage pattern...you know...the kinda dotted ones....I don't know if that is feasable...( Iam reading Kurt Meyer's Grenadiers now...that's why...)
Thanks Martin and that idea might be a go too, but I have to find someone to make a die cheap enough to afford having a metal and enameled badge made--so far the cheapest I have found is over $700.00. I hate the idea that a badge is to be made in plastic--BUT, I can get them embroidered as well for a cheaper cost. TDB is short for Tank Destruction badge--in German if I spell correctly--it is: Panzervernichtabziechen??? Andreas please correct me if you see this and I am wrong. OK, ill see what info I can get about the lady who can do the patches. As far as I know--I think she will do it relativly cheap enough. Ill let you know what I find oput as soon as I can--due to work schedule--it might be a few weeks. It seems as if a patch is a more probable way to go--that way there is a common thing for everyone. I still want a few other T-Shirts though--that have actual pictures on them--but this will be as an on order basis--that way it will be much cheaper.
