"Sometimes nothing is a real cool hand"

He was part of dying breed-Hollywood actors that had class about themselves.

Oh no, oh no...that really hit me hard.:(

    Paul Newman.....

When I read the thread heading, I just immediately thought of 'Butch Cassidy'.

A true giant of the movies has passed. RIP.

I too was a huge fan of this gentleman, some of his "food products" were a bit pricey for my taste, but the flavor itself was excellent. I cannot think of one single film he made or was in that I didn't enjoy.

My thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends, he will be missed. Fortunately we all have him forever captured on film and such.

One of my true favourites and a hero as well....

I knew he was very ill but you think of some people that they can never die...

R.I.P. Paul! You will be remembered!

I heard about that as soon as I stepped into the Library. I was HOPING that they were wrong. Like you others, I was a fan of his and my absolute favorite Paul Newman movie is Coll Hand Luke.

Rest in Peace Luke-you were as cool like Duke and Steve McQueen were and still are. :mourn:

"He was smiling... That's right. You know, that, that Luke smile of his. He had it on his face right to the very end. Hell, if they didn't know it 'fore, they could tell right then that they weren't a-gonna beat him. That old Luke smile. Oh, Luke. He was some boy. Cool Hand Luke. Hell, he's a natural-born world-shaker. "

On another discussion board I saw something pretty sad. Someone stated that people should vote for Obama "In honor" of Newman. Its sad enough that he died. But to use his death for political reasons is just wrong. :(

On one of the cable Tv stations, they had a 30 minute tributr to Paul Newman. They not only talked about his acting carreer, but his racing carreer, his line of foods, his work with Children and also a sort of private owned theater-where he used to give acting lessons to anyone who wished to act in plays there. Also, he has the distinction of also having the one and same Wife, for one of the longest marriages in Hollywood.

I think the above, really tells much about this fine person. All the money his line of foods makes-goes to Charities and such.

Thanks my friend, and you got it. Cool Hand Luke had so many great memorable things seen and said. I remember the Egg-eating contest to the scene where that busty woman who was washing her car and tantalizing all of the inmates on that Chain Gang. Absolutely a brilliant movie with a greta cast. One of my favorite lines in that movie was said by the Captain: "What We Have Here Is...Failure To Communicate."

Hi my friend, you got that right. Also, I too liked that scene where he cut those parking meters apart. I can't stand those meters. It seems as if when I find a great parking place at some public place, that it's meter is broken. I've wanted to take a lead pipe to them many-a-times. I ever got a parking ticket once-and that was when I was serving on a Jury and the damned Judge wouldn't let us go out to place more coins in them. I actually saw the meter reader placing that ticket on my windshield. Though the fine then was only $10 bucks, I was still peeved about it.

Sorry bout getting off topic but, yeah, Paul Newman was a Cool Hand, in hollywoodland. I sure will miss him on screen.

One movie I forgot to mention that I really liked him in is: Road To Perdition. Newman was great as the Irish Mob Boss. You had to have sympathy for him when the Tom Hanks character, shot him in the pouring rain, with his Tommy Gun-near the ending of the movie.

Paul Newman was one guy I had put in my indestructible list. But sadly, reality has a way of proving that no one is indestructible. Goodbye, sir. Thank you for the laughter, the tears and the passion you instilled and inspired in us. We who have watched your films and followed your career carry a little something of you inside of each of us. May you rest in peace.
