1st Airborne Recce Squadron Arnhem 1944 -2008

Not sure if this is the right part of the forum but thought this photo might be of interest.....it certainly reminds me of what a recce jeep might have looked like on the afternoon of 17th September 1944 during 'the race to the bridge'......

 

Oh yes, that's interesting - judging from photos in John Fairley's 'Remember Arnhem' , I'd say that the Jeep in the photo looks to be a fairly good reproduction.....

Main reason for posting was one of the few if perhaps the only jeep (present in 2008 of course) with a K Gun!

Ah yes, King & Country's model of a fully-loaded SAS-spec Jeep, masquerading as an 'Arnhem' one. A poor effort......

 

Nice pic Medic,and guys are we refering to the book king and country? because i looked in mine and i can see very little difference between the pic posted and the auctual pics in my signed copy of Remember Arnhem.

 

No - King & Country make limited-edition metal models including an Airborne Jeep & Trailer set at about £110....

HI to all

My grandad ( still alive ) is mentioned in " Remember Arnhem " as firing lots of rounds with the Vickers " K " gun and he was very lucky to escape alive as he was in the Recce squadron. L/ crpl Albert roy Palmer 5511466. He was in one of the jeeps that maganged to get through the ambush !!!. He was in C troop , does anyone have ANY information at all on this group as i cannot find much about them on the internet.

Hi Porks, have just looked in my copy of Remember Arnhem, and read the references to your Grandad and put a face to his name from C troops pic. As im on route to my bed I will see what I can find tommorow but a few other Rogues on here such as Medic or Martin will be sure to add any info they might know.Please thank your Grandad for his service it is truly appreciated.Jason

 

C Troop went in as 3 sections 7, 8, and 9. O.C, C Troop, was captain J.A Hay, 7 sectiion were under LT. R.C Foulkes, 8 section LT.P.L Bucknall K.I.A,17.9.44 and 9 section C.B Bowles.12 members of C Troop were K.I.A.That is what I have found so far.

 

Been looking through my "Remember Arnhem" in detail with regards to C Troop, and it explains thier actions pretty much from start to finish so my question is Porks do you have a copy? and if not I can give you details of the Ambush and the fact that by Tuesday 19th September late afternoon C troop basiclly ceased to exist and were merged with Hq Troop.

 

Glad to see that for at least the fourth time on the forum in the past month or so, I have wasted my energy replying to a request for information
