Race is not the issue here, picking on any politician is part of the game (this time it's Obama, next time it'll be another one ), but the rogues are talking about ideas, so please avoid this provocative type of question.
I'm not sure how to take this. I have to admit I find it interesting when people portray Democrats as socialist or Republicans as oppressive right wingers. In the current American two party system these two parties are rubbing elbows if not arm in arm, especially when compared to any other 1st world nation, (I'm not even going to bring up Italy!). And for what it's worth the left/right model of politics is a terribly inadequate model to represent the political spectrum, it's like using a ruler to measure a smell.
I'm with Otto on this one-"I'm not sure how to take this. " Please do not turn this into a racial issue. I just don't like his politics or his "world" views on how America should operate. To me he is an empty suit or as they say in Texas-"All hat and no cattle". Personally I was hoping that Colin Powell would run for president. IMHO we need another really good soldier/statesman in the White House. Haven't had a good one since Eisenhower. I've said it before and I'll say it again. It is time to clean house from the local school boards all the way up to the White House including the upper and lower cesspools...oops, I mean upper and lower houses of Congress. Take care, Salty
What bothers me is that they're kids for crying outloud. I don't think children should be running around with 'Obama' or 'McCain' shirts. Most children don't understand what politics even are, let alone know whom is running for president. I've seen something like this at hand, parents forcing their children to protest with them for the aborition ban, wearing 'Baby killers go to hell' shirts and signs. It disgusts me. (I understand this is sort of slipping away from the topic title, I apologize!)
NO! Im bothered by the fact that he is going to run our country into the ground face first. Oh, and he wants to surrender to terrorists.
Adrian, 1) I am definitely not an Obama fan 2) I am half Jewish and I pick up an anti semite sentiment in your rant here. I don't know if you got the memo, but in 1980, public anti racial comments became politically incorrect, reserved to neo nazis and supremacists-who usually proudly display their ignorance. Please scale back your comments.
Hello guys, please let me get some clearer picture about the prevailing sentiments against Obama in this or other Forums. From German point of view, President Bush and his "group" are not very well received in Germany. Germans like a Bill Clinton or even a Ronald Reagen. During Clintons time I didn't really get the impression that the USA or the world was facing a global economic setback as presently. To blame the present situation on the Dems, even though the Reps are in power for the last 8 years seems a bit odd to me. Isn't it the job of the President and his party to forward ideas or programs that are shared by the majority of the population and as such by the senat and congress? Now Obama is forwarding his policy in regards to changing the present situation as McCain seems more of supporting the course of the last 8 years. So what is it that puts Americans in this Forum or other Forums so much against Obama? Is it just simply Reps against Dems? or is the anti Obama fraction convinced of the present situation being acceptable? Regards Kruska
Hi Lias Shalom Alekum. It is my usual manner to be somewhat robust in my comments but at the same time not to seek to offend decent people, if at all possible. I do not know what specifically happened in 1980 but if we take the general point about political correctness being introduced around about the 1980s, I am happy to discuss that. The politically correct position with respect to the Jewish people, is that whilst it is not politically correct to call for the extermination of the Jewish people, it is politically correct to call for the destruction of the State of Israel. Furthermore, since it might be difficult to differentiate between Jews living both within the State of Israel and outside the State of Israel e.g. American Jews liveing in New York City, as to whether such people would or would not support the State of Israel, in politically correct methodology the extermination of all Jews everywhere would be justafied, if that would further the purpose of the destruction of the State of Israel. So, if you would wish to accuse me of not being politically correct, I would have to agree with you in respect of that accusation, as I support the right of the State of Israel to exist as a sovereign independent state and I do not wish to murder Jewish people. Furthermore you might wish to note, that there is a significant difference between endorsing anti-semitism and mocking anti-semitism. Finally, I would like to thank you for raising the questions that you have about my posting, as it has given me an opportunity to set out my position in clear terms on such matters. Personally, I like the other folks round here and their attitudes and do not believe they would be bothered by the colour of Mr Barak Obama's skin but that's only my personal opinion and obviously, I can not speak authoritavly for anyone, except myself. The problem, I have with Mr Barak Obama is the Reverend Wright. The way he has talked e.g. about Italians is just pure racism. If one was to believe Mr Barak Obama, the Revrend Wright was sweetness and light anytime he ( ie Mr Obama ) had dealings with him, I think there we are in to the possible but highly unlikely. Mr Obama's apologia for the revrend Wright that he was like some dotty relation that would come out with embarassing remarks, doesn't wash in that people would have a duty of care to their relatives but one can change one's Church and pastor without obligation. Also, since I rather suspect that the Revrend Wright has not had some sort of Damascus style conversion in reverse, from an angel of sweetness and light to a rabid bigot and presumably Mr Obama has allowed his children to attend as members of the Reverend Wright's congregration, I wonder what sort of ideological vomit, Mr Obama may exposed his Children to. Hitler was a German and a person with a white skin and even if for argument sake he had presented himself as a moderate and had no formal links with the Nazi party but had associated with a rabble rousing foaming at the mouth Nazi bigot like Julius Streitcher, I would not vote for him either. Nice try, Cross, to stir up some ca-ca. My problem with Obamessiah has nothing to do with race, for me anyway. Apparently, race is an issue for you. In 2000, I voted for this man in the Republican primary. Can you name him, Cross? And if he were to run, I'd waste no time voting for this man. He has my vote if he would just make the run. Can you name him also? BTW, he's not of the liberal mindset either.
Adrian-First thank you for clearing up what you were trying to say and where you stand with your last two posts. Even I was bit confused by the post quoted above. As it did not seem to make sense and follow the thread subject of using children as politcal pawns. I see how it can be misconstrued. Your post about if anyone was bothered by Obama's ethnic origins was a bit fuzzy at best, especially coupled with your previous posts, which I felt detracted from your original post and what you trying so say. You made no reference to his church ties so no one understood. I personally felt it looked like a loaded question. You have to understand that when a question like that is asked it usually from someone trying bait someone else and you will usually find a hidden video or audio device nearby. (Do not take this to mean that I am saying this was what you were trying to do.) Hence my reply because I did not understand where you were going with all of this. Other than that you have a very good point about using children in politics. They have always been used, but not in the manner in which they are being used today. Case in point. The education budget in California a couple of years ago. Several schools took bus loads of children out of school and went to Sacramento to protest the education budget "cuts" at the behest of the teachers unions. Making it out like look what you are doing to our children, when the truth was the cuts being made were in overbloated areas and actual more than 5 billion dollars more that what being asked for was being put into the education budget. It just wasn't going where the teachers unions wanted it to go. It was a disgusting spectacle in my opinion. Take care, Salty
Didn't you guys join this forum to discuss WWII? Don't you have nothing better to do ? Political threads are getting a plague of this forum. I will keep out of them and the only reason I will keep reading them is to find out when I'm going to close them
