    Absolutely nothing.
Unless the implication is that a terrorist group responsible for decades of murder has a right to bear arms?

    Cheers,

That's the problem with shooting from the hip. The Loyalist Ulster Volunteer Force are the (supposedly) pro-UK unionist Protestants, not the IRA Cathlicks, they are the guys who shoot (or used to) at - among other people - lefty IRAs!

Shall I make a drawing to make things a bit clearer?

O-L-D-D, is fiercly anti-Second Amendment. Some of the things that is known that he has said he was going to do if elected-is to enact many more strict rules and laws concerning law-abiding Americans rights-to own firearms.

Off the top of my head:

    1) The complete permanent bannings of manufacture and sales of any weapon that he (the key word is HE) considers an Assault Weapon. I'e, this also means that no weapon can hold more than I think it was a 5 round limitation in them. This includes-handguns of every type-even revolvers, any magazine-fed weapon and weapons that fire 3 round bursts down to a weapon that fires on every pull of the trigger-one round. In other words-O-L-D-D, wants so many restrictions on weapons-that if for instance-you own say a .30-30 Winchester Rifle-that it's internal magazine-cannot hold more than five rounds. This is a lever-action rifle-and does NOT fire on every pull of it's trigger-unless you take the action to cock the weapon which inserts a round into the firing chamber. Now-I would like to know just how this type of weapon-could ever be considered an ""Assault Rifle?"" I'd like some esteemed member on this site-please explain THAT one to me.

    2) Magazine-fed handguns. Thanks to that insane law tht ended-thanks to having a time limit placed on it-which banned the manufacture and sales of any new weapons that could fire more than five rounds-most semi-automatic handguns will have at least an 8 round capacity in their magazines.

No Sir-I don't wan't some unknowledgable moron telling me that my Winchester .30-30 is an Assault Rifle-when clearly he-does not know and does not want to know the difference between the two. Also, I remember saying in another thread not long ago-that I , in the future-will buy a submachinegun. I, as a law-abiding citizen who has never been in serious trouble-and has never been a threat to anyone-should be allowed to purchase one if I want to. obama-lama-ding-dong is doing his best to see to it that law-abiding citizens-will be restricted to what he (oldd) deems as something that we-the common people-can have under his leadership.

This is how this how it can be compared to that of that incident in Ireland. Ireland as far as I have been told-and by three Gents I am friends with who are Irish and live in Ireland-that the average citizens ability to purchase a firearm in Ireland-is severely restricted. I don't know enough about Irish laws to fill a thimble, but I can for sure ask one or more of these three friends I know-more about gunlaws there.

I am hoping that Gotthard Heinrici will see this and please chime in and tell us what he knows.

    Take care and best regards--Carl.

PS, my reply here is definately NOT intended to start another politician-bashing thread.

    Thank You--C.

What the hell has wnd Amendment or OLDD have to do with Northern Ireland? It's in another continent, ferkrissakes

What gives here is that the IRA and the Unionist militias signed an agreement to disarm, and the implementation of this was overseen.

Now it looks like in contradiction to the signed agreement some Protestant bloke (one of the Bad guys from the Good side, or the other way round)was trying to hide away a few more guns for a rainy day, nothing else.

It simply has nothing at all to do with bloody gun rights or American politics, it's another entirely different country who is still picking it's way out of a decades long internal conflict, or can't you see that? Aren't you being a bit parochial ?

Hi Miguel, you missed the point I was trying to make clear. The point is, is that they have some very strict restrictions on gun ownership in Ireland-and the average good citizen is being "punished" for lack of a better word-for being a good citizen. If they are law-abiding citizens-then why the hell can the NOT own a weapon if they so choose to do so-without the sever restrictions?

One fine reason for the purchase of firearms there to be severely restricted is DECADES OF TERRORIST MURDERS.

I'm absolutely staggered that a seizure of weapons stashed by a terrorist group can be interpreted as having any kind of relevance whatsoever to any US second amendment politics.

I would strongly recommend anyone who fancies chipping in on the murky world of the politics of 'the Troubles' to first read the Roll of Honour for Operation banner and the more complete analysis of the total including all the completely innocent civilians killed purely because of some arbitrary event of birth before making any more exceptionally ill-informed comment in that area or attempting to twist a murderous, tragic and horrible tale to fit an entirely unrelated political agenda. These things are still not entirely settled (as this story underlines), and raw within many people's memory,

Operation Banner - Roll of Honour

    Civilians Killed.

To most anyone who has lived in the UK and Ireland for the last few decades any such attempt is deeply unpleasant, and completely offensive to the memory of those that were killed and maimed.

    Adam.

Carl, your point is just plain wrong. We aren't talking about 'good citizens' being 'punished' we are talking about firearms being confiscated from at terrorist organisation. We are not talking about 'law abiding citizens' but terrorists.

Just to try to get through, allow me to simply modify some words in the article so it might make sense to you:

"A large cache of weapons and bomb making equipment linked to Al Queda has been discovered in a house in Corpus Cristi, Texas, police have revealed." (Italics mine, bits I've added to produce a comparable situation for you to get your head round).

Now if you saw that headline would you not be at least vaguely in favour of confiscating weapons from terrorists.

    Two other points:
    1. Firearms law is quite different in NI, carriage of firearms for self defense is regarded differently by the law and you can still own handguns. Keep this in mind before going off like a rocket.
    2. The individual in question here was bloody DEAD

Honestly, some people simply see the words 'firearms' and 'taken' in a paragraph when down comes the red mist. I'm with VP, I can't believe people a. tried to turn this into a thread about Obama, b. think it has any relevance to the second ammendment and c. have continued posting to try to justify these two rediculous points.

Here we have a 1,500 mile long "open" border, so anything along those lines (2nd Amendment)(amendment) is again utter nonsense.
Mexican Mafia just performed a kidnapping of a six year old boy to get stolen drug money back. Yea ... we're protected.
"All you need is Nanny" Beatles song I believe.
It's the passive aggressive, subliminal, wasn't me/I never said/meant that $hit, that is always dismissed as paranoia, that is Totally transparent !
The cache of weapons amongst known terrorists is a bad thing, private ownership here is a 180 degrees different thing.
People tend to "lump" all as one for simple brain simplification.
What Carl, I and others will not accept is the "wave" (like at football game) traveling around the world.
    Monkey see ... Monkey do.

Miguel, I know that, but, all he was trying to do, was make to point out that there is -even if fuzzy-similarities between their lawws, and our laws. You CAN make a comparison within reason-between anything.

Oh my god, you are still defending possibly the most ridiculous series of postings on the forum EVER! All he was doing was making a ridiculous point based on clearly misunderstanding the issue at hand!

If Obama gets elected firearms will be confiscated from known (and dead) members of terrorist organisations? What on earth are you kids on?

How about you keep election politics and idiotic 'gun control' arguments out of a thread about what is a VERY sensitive issue over here?

Stefan, no-my point isn't wrong. I also know that no amount of 'splaining things to you-is going to get you to change your mind on something it is set on-just like yoy, Miguel-or even herkie-will never be able to sway me for my support for things like our second amandment-which is: "The right to own and bear arms." No jokes please Miguel. I do find it fascinating that some people from other countries-like to whine on about Americans right to own firearms. Why is that?

Now, if I were living in Ireland and was just an average unassuming citizen who obeys the law and minds his own business-then why the hell can't I own a weapon if I so choose? Huh? why not? From your statements above Stefan, you without directly saying so, are lumping in ALL Irish folks in with that stupid asp-munching terrorist shipheads known as the IRA. Just because I live several thousands of miles away from where those freaks caused trouble-damage and deaths-doesn't mean I have never heard anything about them. I think they are as lousy as the fragging KKK are-if not worse!

Just because a group of idiots get together and form a band of assholes who go around doing all-kinds of terrorist deeds-doesn't mean that the average Irish citizen should not be allowed to own-a firearm. What the hell is so bad about owning guns that you think we should not be allowed to own any? Heck, the darn things can't hurt you unless your walking past a rack of them and one falls off it and lands on you big toe-making you yelp in pain, grabbing your poor footsy with hands, hopping up and down in pain and making your foots biggest digit-turn red and purple. Other than that, I can't see how a firearm is such an evil thing and why a few of you non-Amis just can't get that through your thick skulls.

I have several friends who live in various European Countries, and every-single-one-of-them-would-love-to-move-here-to-the-United-States-so-they could-actually-enjoy-the freedoms-of-gun-ownership.

I hate to burst your bubbles but-there HAVE been large casches of weapons and explosives found in a few homes here in Corpus Christi in the past few years. Almost every case is linked to a street gang. Thankfully, the Police here are good enough to be able to find out about such things-before those insane morons go out and do something. BUt, one thing I really like about our Country that is over other COuntries-is the fact that our Govt does NOT panic over one or a few such incidents-and then decides to severely restrich gun ownership and having all-kinds of VERY stupid rules placed on a law-abiding citizen shoulders in order to owna weapon, the weapon has to be stored at a local Police Station or that you HAVE to beloong to some Shooters Club-in order to be able to own a fragging BB-gun-let alone-a ""real"" firearm.

Stefan, I suggest you reread some of your own stuff instead of sending an accusation that we fly off like rockets. You did exactly the same-just not in the same words as I and other-Pro-gun supporters-have typed in here. I do have the feeling like this will be another topic in which instead of you telling me something I didn't know before-that anything any of us gun owners and or gun rights supporters have to say-will all simply be those fantastic replies that liberals will make-which has a lot of text-but really says ---- nothing. This is what we call ovver here: "Beating around the buch."

Thank you and have a greeat weekend ;-))

    Best cheers-and a free Rootbeer for ya--C.

PS, no, I was and am not angry-when making this reply to you. Just thought i'd let you know that ;-))

Well said, VERY well-said. And if I can, you get all my rep points I can give for it.

Also, to expand on what is posted above, just yesterday-the Sheriff of Hildalgo County-here in Texas-now has the permission to shoot back at drug smugglers who fire on them-even across the border into Mexico. Before a Liberal chimes in about this-and moans and groans that Americans are FINALLY allowed to fight back, this means that if the bad babbies across the broder fire on OUR law-enforcement Officers-that OUR officers have the right to shoot back. Also, they are all now armed with AUTOMATIC weapons-which-in case you liberals dont know-that means that they now have guns that continue to fire continusly with one pull of that trigger.

I'm confused on this. What is a suspected firearm? Either it's a gun or it's not a gun right?

I find it disturbing that the man had to die BEFORE the police found out about the weapons.
