Hello Gentlemen , i was browsing ebay as im wont to do on rainy days like this and i came across this item.

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&item=270290111681

I asked the seller to please post a picture of the reverse and up to now he has declined to do so.
It appears to be advertised as genuine but having two of these items on hand and having done weeks of research i tend to think this one is fake.

    Thoughts anyone ?

Hard to say without another picture. I'd be careful though. It never says it's original and the fact that the seller does not send a better picture wouldn't incline me to buy it anyway.

Thanks Skipper , ill post a picture of a genuine Di and it will show the subtle differences.
I met a decent bloke from Texas whos a bit of an expert on Nurnberg and he tells me only two types were ever made , a clutch back pin was never one of them.

You are welcome. I'm no expert, but common sense makes me believe that such a rare item would not be for a sale at such a price if genuine.

The first two pics are genuine , the post on the back is finely threaded and the disk screws on tight.
The other pic is the ebay item , you can see the clutch back is visable from the front , not so on a genuine DI.
The reverse has a lot written on it , the seller wont show anyone the reverse of that one.
He does actually claim and advertise it as genuine , i cant think why he wont show me the reverse other than its a reproduction and since i first posted im pretty sure it is.
Just need confirmation because im far from expert.

Yep , i think your right . i almost fell down when i seen it at that price , happily i havnt bid , it just looked too new and the colours are not quite right , close but no cigar

    Thanks Skipper

Glad you didn't fall for the fake , there is no doubt when you compare both pictures, no wonder you never got to see the back .
You welcome James, Let's put it in a positve way: now we both know what the real pin looks like and the comparative picture is nice historical aspect for the forum. In fact it's the first time I see the said pin.

I think you have a fine idea there , your welcome to my two pics to do with as you please as a reference for the forum.
Theres other sellers selling the same fakes and doubtless other DI's are faked.
Im learning a lot on id'ing the authentic shoulder patches too from that era just from reading on ebay , theres good authentic gear there but its outweighed by the fakes.

It looks like the old adage is proved right again : -

'If it sounds too good to be true....

    ...it probably is ! '

The pin array at back is different then your original, colors are off, and the back pin looks like a modern style pin I have seen on modern tinnies etc.

    I would pass

Thanks guys , all the confirmation i needed , i was tempted to bid initially but there was too many discerpencies i could see and the seller ignores all requests for more info.
I had my friend in Texas look at it and he also asked for more info or a picture of the reverse , he was also ignored.
I did recieve a reply by email , not ebays message service which would have stayed in his message box for ebay to see if ever needs be , quite clever.
He assured me its genuine and made in the 40's or 50's .. very vague for something so rare.
But it set me thinking , Spandau prison was there until just lately , they tore it down a while back im sure we all know.
Were American guards still rotating duty up until that time ?

James I'm on to this a bit behind but the item is purchased with too much monies given in my estimation, as a rule of thumb if the seller will not abide by giving you direction to a reverse or other wishful images then drop him like a stone, he is hiding something

you can spend your hard-earned money elsewhere and still be quite happy

James always use your gut feeling as it will eliminate much grief. As you so honestly and wisely did, you did your homework

Thanks for the kudos Erich , fact is , if i done my homework this was my school.I didnt know Jack about DI's or Nurnberg until i asked a few guys here who were helpful.
I was amazed he got away with it and at a nice price too.Whats even more amazing is ebay lets rip off artists like this and others operate.
Today i was looking at Gold coins and checking some feeback , its truely amusing.
One guy bought silver bars and recieved lead bars dipped in silver , he left negative feedback and to my delight the seller had responded saying the buyer didnt understand Chinese silver ...what a hoot
