it is not up to Bush in the first place............look what is behind him and has been all along. And yet I say this again on this forum and others, it will be he that is remembered for whatever happens bad and to the good over in the M.E. theater.

Israel has the potential and free gratis by us actually to do whatever means it takes to protect their homeland from Syria, Iran and whomever

Obama has a long winding road ahead of him and his cabinet make-up, let us pray he does not become a pussy and remains forefront able and strong

life is fickle so go eat a pickle

Interesting that you should use the term "immense distrust". That is exactly how I feel about those "natural allies" you mention. No nation has "friends" or "natural allies", only countries whose interests tend to converge. Political leaders must protect their own county's interests first rather than curry favor with the citizens of other countries, so while it may be regrettable that your personal feelings have been "eroded", it's irrelevant. Bush made his decisions based on what he felt best for the US, and I trust President Obama will also make his decisions, not on what might seem right to people in other countries, but what he thinks is best for this country.

    1) It seems every thirty years or so, the US public does something extremely stupid.

I remember when Jimmy Carter was elected, people said:"But he's a nuclear phycist (sic), he should be brilliant." He was so brilliant that four years later the unemployment rate had tripled, as had interest rates and inflation.

It would be unfair to say Obama is going to screw things up, but based on comments he has made, there is cause for concern, especially since he's threatened the second amendment. Bill Clinton did the same thing and militia groups formed up rather quickly. That they did so leads me to my next comment.

    2) The issues of the War of Northern Aggression (1861-65) have never been resolved and remain a campfire of burning coals. Anti Second Amendment Presidents (i.e. Clinton) throw gasoline on these coals. It's obvious that middle America and the South feel at odds with both coasts. A division of America remains a certainty of the future and people like Obama are going to speed that process along.

I am concerned for the country I love.

Cause for concern is "well" founded. Not condemning anyone before they're in action, but will not sit back and take whatever comes. President is not Caesar, Emperor, or King. A President can be Impeached.

Impeachment groups have already formed and the election isn't even 100% over.

AFP: 'Impeach Obama' groups pop up on Facebook

I think before we get there, secession is a certainty.

Sorry, you miss where VP is coming from. As a citizen of the UK I support the USA. Honestly I thing of the US as an incredible nation and I feel that we share so much when it comes to values and ethics. Really, as nations and peoples I regard us as cousins and the more Americans I meat the stronger I feel that. However, recent foreign policy is what has come to change that, I think that is what VP has meant to say, that natural allies such as the UK have started to become suspicious of the US.

Since I am not American, this decision does not directly effect me, however considering America is the leading superpower with a very imperialistic attitude to the rest of the world, It will in one way or another effect us all.

Good for him, and good for the USA for this historic event.

    This.

Obama and McCain would do the same things in 99% of the issues they would face.

You US people are lucky to not have extremists in the pool, this also means there is a agreement whithin the population about the most important aspects of the country you want to live in. That's what makes USA so strong.

P.S. : by now you should have received the adress of the collective farm you are supposed to work in from now on, thanks to the new Overlord of the United Socialist America ;)

Well, trust is a two-way street. While the UK is not showing on our 'not-so-trusted allies' list, there are others that always stood with us in earlier times, but now that there's no Russian bear near their borders, our country is now the 'bad guys' to them. Are we supposed to not show distrust to old allies who now badmouth us to the rest of the world? Again, the UK is not really what I'm thinking of. There are other parts of the EU that I am thinking of.

As I said, it's a two-way street. The US has always been one to stand with those who would stand with us. However, some of our old allies have chosen their own way *which is their right*, I'm not saying they can't choose their own way, but when that way is to openly repudiate the US position, then that creates distrust from the US, as it should.

It doesn't need to, we live in a changing world, old alliances fade, new ones form. I just think that with Obama in power the US stands to strengthen friendships that became strained under Bush.
