The area I live in was formerly Camp Sibert from WWII. A chemical weapons training facility. Many stories have come about of people unearthing live munitions from that era. A few years ago a private company was here for a while searching and disposing of them.
Same thing happened near where I live. Camp Swift was a large army training base in WWII and they recently cleaned up munitions that were left in the area after 60 years.
Well, at least US officials are acting on the problem, even if belatedly. At Clark and Subic, the US stance has been largely to ignore the problem, despite the voluminous records and documents that prove such a problem exists. If it takes 60 years for officialdom to act on problems on US soil, I wonder how many decades would it take before action is taken to deal with the situation at the two former US bases.
