I remember that back in the late 70s / early 80s our drill in case the Sovs decided to get some of Scandinavia was to get under our school desks and put our hands over our heads.

Looking back, I'm not sure what good that would do.

God, haven't seen them for a long time! That's put me in the mood to give War Plan UK another read.

Now that might work if there's still electricity to operate the vacuum cleaner.:D

I spent fifth grade (1971) in Los Angeles. It was the last time I ever did a duck and cover drill. The next year, when we moved back to Albuquerque the D.O.D. leaked the fact that because so many nuclear weapons are stored in Albuquerque that the Soviets would throw their largest H-Bomb at the city-leaving a crater 500 feet deep and 100 miles wide. It made duck and cover completely irrelevant.

I have one of those films in my inventory. I was watching it one day when a friend came over. After viewing about 5 minutes worth he told me, "Wow, they are really making fun of those old propaganda films aren't they?". I had to tell him "No, this IS one of those old propaganda films".

Too young to have experienced the Duck and Cover drills though.

Anyone in the UK remember the dangers of being to near a pond? Creepy one as I recall.

I remember seeing Threads a while back, pretty good if bleak particularly as in the area around where I live.
