Just found the site. Served in the Marine Corps (0311) from 86-91 (recalled during GW1) and in the Cal National Guard from 97-02.

My step dad was a WW2 vet, 36th Div. 141st inf. Co. "I", and I grew up hearing stories of "Itly" (sic), France and Benny Goodman when other kids heard stories of Saigon, Khe San and Jimi Hendrix.

My Grandfather worked in the Benicia shipyards during the war as did one of my aunts.

My "father's" dad was a POW held at Camp Beale, now Beale AFB, and his resume is lost to history.

I grew up collecting all manner of WW2 equipment, uniforms, patches, helmets etc. All were "yard saled" when my mother purged my belongings after I went to boot camp.

I Look forward to spending time here.

p.s. Huge "Call of Duty" fan :D

    Brad,

Thanks for your service, my family and I appreciate you going in harm's way for us.

Have you forgiven your mother yet. I know that I would have a hard time.:D

Tell us more about your pa. Do you have any pics of him?

Haven't forgiven my mother yet. The story in re: my grand father is what I have pieced together from half sisters and his very tight lipped ex wife. It is my assumption that he was detailed from the stockade to work in the fields. I can only assume that he was still a POW when he "Slipped one passed the goalie", and created my father, beings he was born in the spring of '45. Everyone with first hand knowledge has passed.

Brad -- Welcome! You have quite an interesting story to tell so I hope you will continue to try to dig up information on your grandfather and that you will share it with us!

I have not forgiven my mother for burning all of the mementos that I should have gotten from her (her house was occupied by the Germans during the war for about 5 years) so I can understand why you may not have forgiven your Mom for getting rid of things you actually possessed!

Thanks for your years of service. We appreciate it!

    Cheers!
