I think SAAB sold out to GM because of bad sales. My dad (who works at VW Sweden) said: - "SAAB has always been doomed since day one" I think Volvo was bought up so they could sell more (especially in the states).
Oh heck, Jaeger, RAM and I, seem to be slightly outmumbered-but that's OK because we are waiting for the Swedes reinforcements to arrive-and then we'll attack and push them to Moscow. ;-)) Sorry for posting the wrong Halldin quote ;-))
Its a bit more complicated than just; "more sales", and especially in the Volvo section. Ford and GM are both owners of portions of Volvo, only SAAB is completely GM owned these days. And it (the acquisitions) also have some odd "import tax" benefits if the company bringing goods into America is partially American owned. Don't know the specifics on that part of the deal though. 1981 - A.B. Volvo purchased some assets of White Motor Corp. to form Volvo/White Truck Corp., based in Greensboro, NC. Volvo White sold vehicles under the Volvo, White and Autocar nameplates. 1988 - Volvo GM Heavy Truck Corp. was formed as a joint venture between Volvo and General Motors Corp. Volvo GM’s nameplates were WHITEGMC and Autocar. The WHITEGMC nameplate was discontinued in 1995 and Volvo GM’s trucks were sold under the Volvo and Autocar nameplates. 1997 - Volvo purchased all of General Motors' interests in Volvo GM, and changed the company's name to Volvo Trucks North America. Today, the Volvo Group, including Volvo Trucks North America, is the second-largest manufacturer of heavy trucks in the world, and the largest manufacturer of heavy-duty diesel engines. See: history : Volvo Trucks - North America This is a bit old, but still pertinent. While on the automobile side, GM made a successful offer in 1990 for half of Swedish Saab's car operations, excluding the truck, bus (already had Volvo remember?) and military jet businesses. A decade later, GM bought the remainder of Saab's automotive operations from its unhappy partner. GM's idea was to turn Saab into another BMW, so it initially planned to produce a model to rival BMW's 7 series flagship. But 18 months later GM concluded that a front-wheel-drive Saab could never be a BMW. From then on GM has never really known what to do with Saab. It has lost money (even GM says so) in every year but one since the acquisition. See: Saab Story - Forbes.com The irony here is that in the "go-go" eighties both Ford and GM got into the acquiring foreign car makers, both wanted Jaguar (Ford got it), and then the whole Swedish automotive business got going with Ford buying into Volvo automotive, GM into Volvo trucks and SAAB automotive.
If I had his life, his personality, his lifestyle, his professional competence, high achievement and standards, being called "ugly" would be the smallest of my concerns. How do you rate in what concerns this? Besides, ugly is subjective. Most of the women I know find him extremely sexy and wouldn't mind spending some "quality time" with him. Again how do you rate in what concerns this?
That's why they're called "Trophy wives". Because if he was only typical in accomplishment, he'd probably fail to get a first date.
Well, I cant wait for Wofly to answer, and not being the egotisical sort by any means, I myself do a mean 3 through the moving windmill and only takes me 2 more to bounce off the corner and get into the basketball net covered hole at the seaside. At that point the females of the species, usually join in, in a general whoop whoop, shouts of way to go and such and I toddle off arm in arm with blonde haired wife for a bacon butty. Unless its raining.
Ahh, the famous IF word... "if", "probably", the fact is that you don't know. But you did not reply to my questions. That' all right, we can leave it at that, I understand. By the way, have you alreday done that forum search for the acronym SWAGPOOYA?
Main Entry: red herring Function:noun Date:15th century 1: a herring cured by salting and slow smoking to a dark brown color2 [from the practice of drawing a red herring across a trail to confuse hunting dogs] : something that distracts attention from the real issue
Oh yeah? You know how the Swedes got their revenge? They swam down to a Norwegian submarine and knocked on the hatch. The commander opened the hatch and said: - "Do you really think we would fall for our own trick?"
So Tiger Woods is distracting the attention of the Swedish and Norwegian navies....I'm easily confused. Now I'm hopelessly confused. But I like herring....I prefer fresh sardines, but any herring will do in a crisis.
Ich biche eine Britishen Luftwaffe or Ich biche eine Britishen Soldat...or something similar....I've used both...they always got me back to camp in Mercedes taxi's after a night on the Pilsen grossen bitte...
