I dont know if this is the right place for this but what the heck. As like most of you, ww2 fourms has become a part of my life at the moment. In fact probably my most visited site. We have a special place for our ww2 vetrans as it should be. They after all are what some of us think this is all about. And we honour them and thank them. And follow their posts when they let us in to their war. We are also liberally smattered with vets from more recent ages. Again anyone who has pulled on the uniform of his or her nation deserves a little respect. Those of us who have pulled it on share a common humour if not outlook on life the world over. We have amongst us though, some who presently serve, and put their life in harms way on behalf of their own peoples. I know there are many serving guys and gals visit the fourms, I dont know them all by name, I only know those I chat to on a regular basis etc as we all would. Its late in the month, but one of our members being promoted in rank in his relevant armed forces deserves to be mentioned and not passed by. He and his colleagues in uniform that vistit this site, be they part timers or full timers....the casualty lists are full of names of part timers in the UK and I suppose elsewhere..... So well done to Jaeger on his real life promotion. And good luck to all our member in uniform, and the guests that wear it but dont sign on as members out there. To Stefan who could find himself in the thick of it at any time. To Boozie, who dons his uniform everyday and goes to work not knowing what the day wiill bring. I know I've missed the names of serving forces, sorry I dont know you by name. To all and any firefighters present...and I know there are many part timers from States here in that role when called on. And to the serving police officers amongst us, together with the paramedics who clean up after the rest of us. Have a safe 2009
I raise my toast to all concerned, those who serve and those who served, in one capacity or other. Thank you very much for your effort in keeping this world a civilised and safe place. And thank you, Urqh, for reminding us of this.
Definitely joining the company here. Especially those who served in WW2 and people who have served in peace keeping missions, but also people wearing uniform in your own country to protect and serve. I hope I said it correctly...
I definitely concur with the sentiments you expressed, urqh! I respect and honour all those who past, present, and future step into harms way for the benefit of the rest of us. And knowing, do it over and over again.
Thanks to all, I'd pass the hat round and buy Jaeger a beer as thats all I really wanted. To let folk realise he had been promoted if he doesnt mind me stating it and making sure we didn't miss it. Again thanks, but to others not me.
there are more veterans and those that do not call them selves veterans on this site as members and a definate watchful eye than you know Salute ~
