Hey guys. My name is Jeff and I am from Texas. I have checked in on this site now and again, but it was time for me to join in. I have had an interest in WW2 since I was young. I had several great uncles who served, and I remember stories from when I was growing up. Currently, I am in college on my way to a history degree. I am working on getting into a Graduate program here in order to pursue a PhD. in military history. I am taking a WW2 class and a class on Nazi Germany this semester, so I will probably be dropping in from time to time to discuss some ideas or ask some questions. Jeff
Howdy fellow Texan and welcome to the forum. I look forward to reading your future postings. Perhaps we can learn something new. Happy posting
As a person who took too much time to complete my B.A. in history, I had NO idea of the money and time post-grad work would entail. It is without doubt even more expensive now than it was when I tried for my masters in archaeology. I only was able to fund half of one semester in 1995, and was floored by the need for $500 worth of books for one class itself. Then (at the time) one had to set $800 "aside" for computer access time with other university systems. I had neither the money or the time to complete my first semester. I never had a better time learning, and wish I could have continued, but just couldn't afford the tariff. Best of luck in your pursuit of the goal, I envy you the time and "fun" you are going to have studying your chosen subject.
Thank you all. Glad to be here. I am lucky enough to find myself, at least for now, in a position in which I am able to go for it. Of course, the way the economy seems to be tanking, it may not stay that way for long.
Jeff -- Welcome to a fine place! Where are you pursuing your studies? I also had plans to get a Ph.D in history but my professors talked me into going to law school instead. That was back in the 1980's when there was even less work for historians. I have regretted that decision for years so I applaud your commitment to your studies. If you have a passion for history, you will find a way to make a living with your degree and you will always enjoy what you do!
Welcome Jeff! Another fellow Texan! And another Jeff! Ding!Ding!Ding! We have a double winner! Welcome to the forum. I hope it helps you in your quest for your PhD! - JR
