Not to be flip, but NOT getting killed or wounded was very hard on Iwo. I can't imagine any mission there being less than horrendously DIFFICULT if not down right next to IMPOSSIBLE : landing on the beach, moving from the beach, taking out hidden MG emplacements, ducking snipers, capturing the airfields, working up and around and into Suribashi, enduring Banzai charges, and fending off night sneak attacks all rate in that category.(For the USMC, the IMPOSSIBLE just takes a little longer btw.)

Anyway, welcome to the forum! Hope you enjoy it here!

Tough Call...........I would almost have to say that taking the Air Fields and maintaining the front lines at night or clearing out the caves would have been pretty tough as well. I think if the Flag had not been raised on Suribachi no one would know it's name.

If you read the Medal of Honor citations the one for Jacklyn Stein is extraordinary.........he dove on two grenades and lived.

I think the medics had the hardest jobs, they soldier advanced forward and had to ignore the screams of the wounded, but the medics had to go towards that, so they saw the worst...

I cant help if im stelling wrong, its 0:52 here now, and i went to be 01.37 yesterday.

I agree with those who said living day to day. Just to keep sane in a situation like that would be pretty harrowing for anybody.
