Hey all, I am currently trying to compile a good list of sources for writing a research paper on the Allied attack on Aachen in Oct. 1944. Does anyone know of some good memoirs of Allied soldiers who participated in the battle? I know the national archives has a trove of documents, however, seeing that they are located in Maryland, its unfeasible for me to take a trip up there. Do you know of any other good primary sources out there that I could take a look at?
Hello well I have a suprise for you! I have also been doing the same for about 7 years and have allot of info on the battle also you should check out this site. 30th Division Old Hickory PM me and we can get in touch.
You two will probably be OK when you contact each other, but as others may also be interested in Aachen I thought I'd throw in my two penn'orth.... One of the few books I know of on the subject is Charles Whiting's 'Bloody Aachen' but I can't recommend it as I do not like his books and have none in my library. Much more interesting is After The Battle magazine # 42, Battle For Aachen which has a comprehensive illustrated overview of the battle containing individual action accounts.
