Last Sunday I attended the Militaria 2009 show at Stoneleigh, Warwickshire.

Here are a few photos of what was on offer...

Various items of militaria. The German Sumpftarn jacket (next to the RAf tunic) caught my eye as I have never seen a
genuine one for sale before. I was afraid to ask its price...

Lots of medals and badges for sale
    [IMG]

    Ordnance
    [IMG]

Mk2 Bren guns complete with their transit cases, spare mags and canvas covers.

    A very clean MP40 machinepistole

Wish I'd been there! Anyone know of any upcoming/future show or fairs near Birmingham?

Did you actually buy anything? How much did they ask for a WWI E.K.?

those blue and yellow bodied LW 2cm rounds look tasty, what a great looking show; those W-SS collar tabs look suspicious though

I went in the afternoon. Thought prices were very high, for the insignia I was looking for. Not as many traders to compare. Even militaria traders are feeling the 'pinch'.

Alot of great-looking items. Depending on the price-I would have gone for that Police Shako-i've always wanted on of them.

The few prices I cold make out on awards and badges-seemed awfully high to me-especially in the ruddy condition most were in. I too would have gone for insignia--only German Nco and Officer stuff. Great show and John, thanks for showing some of your pictures ;-))

Im currently in the process of having photo CDs made of my photo collection and a few pics of a small part of my militaria. Last night I got 104 pics transferred to Kodak photo Cds and when I can get copies of the CDs made-im going to send them to a couple of Gents here-so that they can post them and I can do write-ups on them.

Sorry for getting off-your topic but-i'd love to have been at that show.

Your in luck, there is a militaria fair at the National Motorcycle Museum, Bickenhall, Solihull nr Birmingham on Sunday 15th February. It's not a big event but it's worth a look...may even go myself ;).

I bought a number of items, which i've begun posting here http://www.ww2f.com/militaria/23668-whats-your-newest-militaria-purchases-28.html
The WW1 EKs were selling for around £48.

Erich, I'm always cautious of SS stuff...there are so many fakes about it's a mine field.

Agreed, some of the prices were a bit ridiculous, £170 for WW2 E.K.1 !!!
I did manage to get the prices down on most of the items I bought, though.

Thanks Carl, I thought the prices of most of what was on offer were a little steep. The prices of the medals and badges in the photo were:
    WW1 EK 2 £48
    WW1 EK1 £255
    WW1 Wound badge (black) £20
    WW1 Wound badge (silver) £55
    Luftwaffe Ground Assault badge £175
    Infantry Assault badge £85
4 Year Long Service medal £45
    Eastern Front medal £38
    DRL Sports badge £40

I spotted this cap on one of the dealers tables.

Here's one for our resident tank expert, Adam (Von Poop).

The tank was parked outside the entrance to the show...not sure if it was for sale though.

Hi John, thanks for the prices. Based on the conditions of most of that stuff-and if I were sellinf-i'd price them as such:

WWI EK2 at $65-and if im close on how much $ are compared to the pound-then i'd say he over-priced that Ek by about $31.

WWI EK1 appx $200-according to his price-its about $300 too much.

The WWI Black Wb sounds about right.
The WWI Silver WB is about $40 over-priced.

The Luft Ground Assault price would still be a bit steep-if that 175 were in USD. That badge is in ratty condition and i'd most likely price it at about $125 at the most.

The IABs I wouldn't even price at $80 per-his price is over double too much.

The Frozen Meat Medals are decent one and i'd list them for between $45-$60 bucks. His prices on them are about $16-appx $31 too high.

That DRL is about $30 bucks too much.

That Political Leaders visor-isn't even a mid-level cap-and certainly aint with no appx $2200 or so bucks.

I wonder what the MP-40 was priced at? ;-))

Carl, the deactivated MP40 had no price on it as it is a lot in an auction that is taking place in the next few weeks.

However, I did see a few for sale, which were in not near as good a condition as the one mentioned, and they were up for sale for between £1800 and £2000 !!!

Here's another 'lid' that was for sale, this time a Fallschirmjagers.

Don't know if the one in the photo was genuine as I didn't have look over it. However, I did picked one up on another dealers table, it looked genuine, but on closer inspection it was evident that it was a modern day copy that had been cleverly aged to look like the real thing.

Well, I'll be hanging on to my MP40, then !

Nice report, John - looks like a good fair ; plenty of munitions which is my sort of 'thing'....as Erich says, a nice collection of 2cm ( and some 3cm ) rounds but prices are usually cheaper at Beltring ( for which this thread has given me a taste.....;) )

Hi John, no price eh? If auctioned-i'd bet that whomever is going to get the MP-40will pay too much because i'll bet they they get into a bidding-war--which is one of the reasons I quit bidding on ebay several years ago. A common snapshot pic going for $10-$15-or more-rediculous.

The price for the FJ help is a bit much because of the replaced liner. A friend of mine has a Tropical-painted FJ helm but im not sure if he has another one or not? because I know he was lookng for one painted in Continental colors.

Carl, I'm sure the bidding will get a little heated when the MP40 is auctioned. It was in superb condition, making it all the more desirable.

John this appears very similar to the US gun shows but let me ask did any particular table sell just weapons - hand guns and rifles and others militaria only or was it a pure mix-up of items on the tables ??

There were indeed a number of 'specialist ' dealers selling only de-act weapons and their associated accessories ie mags, slings etc.

Erich, I spotted this on one dealers table that I thought you may find interesting.

I didn't enquire as to how much it was.

I have some Me 1o9 wreckage , firstly I wouldn't even consider selling those relics , secondly I was't aware people were ready to pay a price for these. The counter balance weight from the me110 is in good condition , the colours makes me think of an early war camo. Thanks for posting these.

Hi John, that wouldn't surprise me in the least. I;ve seen rubber-cast copies going for about $600 these days-and those at most-shouldn't go for more than a "C" Note. I was all-set to order one from a dealer I sometimes buy from-but that dealer got more than a bit greedy and raised the price-which his were originally sold at $100 a piece.

That show looks like a fun time. Does anyone know of any shows in the Carolina's area of the US?

John thanks for the pics of the Bf 110 relics, very cool as Skip said most probably an early variant

Skip yes in the states from friends they are willing to pay big sums of US $'s for trash heap of parts........ why when so much is twisted, contorted aluminum is bent to nothingness, no paint, or numerations to ID anything.....

There are one or two ( literally ) well-known dealers in aviation relics in the UK who I would trust. They have a good reputation ( one is a published author and historian ), research their relics thoroughly and sell recognizable pieces rather than 'junk'.

With most of the others, it is very much a case of caveat emptor. I have seen some laughably inaccurate 'identification' of pieces and as for e-bay - don't go there !
