NOthing good about Ned Almond and some really scathing indictments of MacArthur's chief intell officer Willoughby. MacArthur gets high marks for the Inchon landings, but then proceeded to wreck his reputation by charging off Northwards in spite of all evidence of a growing Chinese storm.

PS. Charles A Willoughby wrote the book on "How NOT to conduct intell ops"; http://books.google.com/books?id=Ff...vLmqBQ&sa=X&oi=book_result&resnum=9&ct=result Not to feel so bad Chuck-the Reds consistently danced circles around Western Intell for the 60 yrs following the end of WWII. How did NKVD and then KGB get so good at the intelligence game? It started in WWII.

What is the most recent film made in Britain concerning WW2? Can't say that I can remember a good recent one either. Something must be done about that too....

How about a WW2 movie about the port Chicago Mutiny ? That would make a fine subject matter for Mr. Lee.Or a story about the USS Macon. How bout it Mr. Lee.

I'd be all for that Port Chicago Mutiny movie-as long as it stayed true to the facts and not just another racism picture that spiked leeches is so well-known for making.

I have written a script or two in my time, specifically to deal with Afro-Americans..

My first project was a comedy about a group of travelling Afro American musicians..I was going to call it "BAND OF BROTHERS", but Speilberg beat me to it, so no chance there....

Well, I thought that it would be a good idea, sort of like "The Bingo Long Travelling All-Stars and Motor Kings." Who knows....

The first thing that hit me was the acting. I've seen some of these guys in other movies, where they seemed talented. Not so here. Secondly, the story line was horrible. That half retarded soldier carrying around that statue head, ugh. That's as far as I could stand to watch.

Not only what Scott said but, the movies Director is a crappy director. As far as im concerned, the only barely watchable movie it made was: The Tuskeegee Airmen.

I wasn't put off by the acting, of these fellows. What appeared to myself was the "Spike Lee" slant of the oppressed, black man. The only (and I think it ran through the movie), was that the characters themselves didn't see themselves the way Spike tried to slant the film toward.

I know that sounds "odd", but he was the director, not the "screen-writer". I felt he (Spike Lee) wished the Axis Sally propaganda was true. Spike Lee used a vehicle of a possible incident, and a veneer of his own opinon to do one more dis-service to the 92nd "Buffalo Soldiers'. The "Buffalo Soldiers" always get the short shrift, but to have an activist for the Black WW2 vets do it is almost insulting to their memory.

I had to watch it (the movie) in portions, since I was so put off by the historical inaccuracies I had to stop to keep any objectivity toward the movie itself. As fiction, and action it isn't bad. As mystery and resolve it is in the mid range. Everybody who watches it sees the end coming.

Did it "honor" the 92nd? I think not. Did the 92nd get a raw deal in Italy? Without doubt.

    Hello bigfun,

Well opinions naturally differentiate - for my part I didn't find the acting bad nor outstanding. Story line? US GI's take town, defend town - win battle - Nazis all dead, just like any other US war movie - no? Okay this guy had the statue head with him, in another movie one guy was filling earth in cans as his trophy.

BTW, AFAIK the Germans indeed exploited the "dynamite" between blacks and whites in the US army for a good reason. So why not choose this topic around a WWII movie. Overall the GI's no matter black or white still felt as being US boy's independently of racial issues back home.

    Regards

Hi Clint, its mainly for s.l's oppression towards blacks in all of its movies, is why I cant watch them. Too bad that actors like Woody Strode arent still around to be used in some of sls movies. I dont think Woody would have been pushed around by sl and would have given an excellent performance despite the directors intentions.

BTW, I just barely missed a great shot of Woody Strode as Sergeant Rutledge in; Sergeant Rutledge. I did get a great shot of Jeffrey Hunter and Constance Towers-in that movie. Hunter is standing in front of the Horse she is sitting on-really is a nice shot of the two. I am actively looking for a few good Strode shots-mainly in Sgt Rutledge, Pork Chop Hill, The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance and The Professionals.
