Hi! I found a pair of binoculars for 60 euro at a local antique store, and the store owner claims this binoculars are German military binoculars from WWII. All info he has is that they are of the "Hensoldt" brand from 1942. Can you help me identify them?

I have a similar pair but yours look in better shape. I think you bought them right. Advice. Do not store them in the case. I know this sounds strange but the tanning acids in the leather will not only tarnish the metal but fog the glass as well. Keep the binoculars in a sealed zip lock bag.

I bought the Binoculars yesterday, but when i showed them to a friend, he told me that he don't thinks this is german WWII Binoculars. He thinks this is binoculars made in germany 42, but used by the Swedish Army 1942.

He said that there was no crown on the ones that germany used, but sweden usually have that crown on things, so it makes sense since i bought them here.. :(

    Can anyone veryfie this?

I can verify that the crown emblem is not Third Reich issue for any of the armed forces serving

Could be Imperial German Specs. Just a wild guess tossed into the fire ;-)) To me the Crown doesn't look like it's German though-but what do I know? ;-)) The case is German and the Glasses look like they are German. You might want to go to Richard J Williams militaria site and compare yours with what he has.

Sorry I did not notice the crown, they may not have served on the battlefields , but they are however genuine German 1942 made, even if issued to a foreign nation. I wonder if these were assigned during the war or if taken from German stocks after 1945.

Interestingly, I would have thought Swedish binocs would have been stamped with the three crowns symbol vice one large crown.( Another stick to muddy the waters)

The Swedish property marking was until 1942 on single crown, as seen in this picture.

From 1942 and onwards it changed to the three crowns above.

Why after the war? Carl Zeiss has made binoculars during both wars.

Gentlemen I think the author of the above photo was just trying to point out the crown as being of Swedish origins and not German, nothing to do with war or post war manufacture............

My Great Uncle was torpedoed in Nov 39 off South America. He was Merchant Navy & spent nearly all the war interned. He came home with a pair of U-Boat Commanders Binns.............He gave them to my Dad, who, aged 12, swopped them for a bloody catapult...............
