God!@$%^% Airedales! That's what the "Black shoe" Navy calls 'em!

 

Black Shoe Navy guys, ain't those the guys who shovelled coal into the furnaces?

 

I never understood that either. Why do some squid zeros wear black shoes and other wear brown? I always thought the "Brownshoes" were prior enlisted.

 

I thought they were Coasties....

 

Brown shoes are aviation. Black shoes are surface fleet.

 

I thought it was engineering department.

 

Snipes are engineers. Top siders are non-engineers. Twigits are electronics types. Deck apes are Bosun's etc. Everything in the Navy has a name. Everything in the Army has a number.....

 

The Navy sure is full of silly people

 

I could make a bunch of really crude Marine jokes but, they usually aren't understood by self-propelled sandbags.....

 

I must admit that I have never heard of the term "self-propelled sandbag" before. Pretty neat. Do you have more?

Well, maybe not now that you mention it. It could get ugly, no doubt about it, and it hasn't been that long since you've got out of the cooler.

I was not able to cross the equator in the USN, but I did cross the "Line of Death" while in the Med, 1986!

 

I figured beings we had some more Marines and a couple of Sailors pop up on the forum in the last few months it would be a good idea to dust this thing off

 

My dad was a polliwog back in '44. I'd have to check his stuff to find the particulars.
