As great as the game is, they did go wrong with a few things like that. Its my far the best Total War game to date, but it could be better (MP Connectivity, Steam, etc).
I just determined that even with my campaign ending bug in the long campaign in my 1st try, that it still was possible to play a long campaign all the way through. This time around I saved my game almost every turn, and I never loaded an auto save. My game was plagued by white screen of deaths. I believe that if I had loaded one of the auto saves from this I wouldn't have been able to complete the campaign.
Auto saves eh? That's funny, my Dutch campaign that keeps crashing I loaded from an auto save...worth a try. My 2 British campaigns have nearly finished and nothing yet, also my Maratha campaigns are doing well.
In the long campaign that I could not complete I would typically get a white screen crash to desktop just before the end of the end of the turn play out. When I got back into the game I would press the Continue button; of which I was amazed that the game was actually saved. Ultimately one of those autosaves likely corrupted my gamefile. It does take longer to select the gamefile when getting into a game, but I do believe it made the difference in being able to complete the campaign. I guess I'm over it because I did much better this time around.
I just picked up this game this weekend. So far the game is great. Occasionally, when loading up a battle I get a message telling me not enough video memory. Not sure why. I have a brand new computer and everything matches the requirements. I started with Prussia in my first game. Decided to unify my boarders at the expense of Poland-Lithuania as well as there ally in Saxony. That went well until 1703 when Austria and Bavaria declared War on me as well as another Polish-Lithuanian ally Courtland. EEK. All of a sudden I'm at war with half of middle and Eastern Europe. So far I've held my own, though I'm thinking of restarting my campaign on a harder difficulty as I just can't lose. Well, no, I did lose a single battle. I had sent my entire fleet (three 24 gun Brigs) to the med to blockade Austria's port. I was intercepted by 6 ships from the Barbary Coast and my entire fleet destroyed. Like the Romans in the Punic Wars, I must rebuilt the fleet from scratch, and take the war to the enemy, again.
Building a fleet as Prussia? Highly discouraged! Prussia starts off with a land-tech advantage and you should use that to conquer your foes! I'll finish off my Grand Campaign as Prussia tonight and post pics of my empire. Well, at least the mini-map. Oddly enough, only two countries declared war on me...Courland in the beginning...not sure why...and Morocco at the end. Neither lasted very long!
I'll just chalk that up as a learning curve. What's the best way to prevent rebellions? I just can't seem to get Warsaw under control. I have some 800 troops in the region, am building everything possible to spur happiness, and have sent two missionaries to the city to convert the population, and they still keep rebelling.
Destroy the Catholic Churches (build Protestant ones) and 'Exempt Region' from tax for a few turns. Everybody is happy when they don't have to pay taxes!
In regards to Medieval Total War, Can anyone in here please tell me (if at all possible) as to how I can lengthen the years per turn. Another words, for every turn 1 year goes by, I have heard that there is a way to make it so that it takes 4 turns for a year to go by. Is this possible?
Yep. Go into the descr_strat file (i believe, same one where you unlock all the factions). There should be something to do with turns in there. I think you change the number from 1 to 4.
Forgive my ignorance, but how do I go about this? I already took care of the taxes, but I'm unsure of the churches. Do I destroy the school I have for research or some kind of other small village? I can't find anything that says "church". I finally lost a battle last night, to a group of rebels. after my first unit of infantry broke I ordered a bayonette charge to try and salvage the battle. After charging down hill and routing most of the enemy, I realized a unit of milita flanked me and took up position on the top of the hill I just charged down. My troops had no fight left in them and broke after the first volley
I think Catholic buildings are called "Seminaries". Just mouse over the building and it will display information, if it says anything about converting the populace to Catholicism, destroy it. Then build Protestant "Church Schools" instead. It is best never to build Brigs, they are a very weak unit. If you HAVE to build ships, use a Naval Dockyard instead. However, you must remember to upgrade it so you can build more powerful ships! On my recent campaign as the Maratha Confederacy (One of the Indian factions, the bronze-coloured one), I swept everything aside for the first half of the game with my fourth rate Frigates. However, my progress in America looked like it was in jeopardy when three Spanish Second Rate Ships of the Line appeared, so I had to retreat into a port. Right now my force of five freshly completed Second rates has landed a large Army in Portugal (Which Spain controls). I am just hoping three is all the Spaniards have, and I am researching the technologies which will allow me to build Steam dockyards-which Will allow me to build First Rate battleships!
As Prussia, ignore everything Naval until you are a well established land power. In my conquests, I had over a dozen Universities performing research at one point, which allowed me to catch up and take the lead in the Naval game. When I took over Malta (Knights of St. John) the port there allowed me to build 1st Rate Ships (and Heavy 1st Rate Ships)...just three of them dealt with anything thrown at them!
Heavy first rates = complete and utter ownage! On my British campaign a fleet of 2 heavy first rates and a Rocket ship blew apart every navy in the Baltic, Sweden, Prussia, Poland and Russia. Though you find most of the battles that affect the campaign (Blockading trade routes, controlling the sea in America, India and the trade areas) are done with ships smaller than Third rates.
