Ham and Jam, I hope we can look forward to a wealth of pictures from that event. Too costly to cross the big pond.
Not cheap from your side thats for sure, you know its only costing me £48 return to fly from here to Amsterdam. I went to a VJ day event in Birmingham last Monday with a vet friend, I drove but enquired about going by train and Virgin would have charged me £90 if I had bought the ticket on the day so its cheaper to fly to Europe than to get the train 100 odd niles in your back yard. Andy
That was one of the things I noticed when travelling in Europe on an anniversary trip with my wife in 2000. The trains are a great way to get around but they are not cheap.
Sorry I haven't replied until now; I moved home in the UK in early July and have had broadband problems ever since - finally back on-line properly now. Anyway, thanks for the info Ham & Jam. Sorry you aren't going Martin - I am sure our paths should cross one of these days!?
Just back - an excellent trip and pleasing to see so many veterans again. Picked up some new books for the library and took plenty of photos, some of them on the website: http://battlefieldsww2.50megs.com/arnhem_plus_61.htm
Glad you had a good trip, Paul ; and very glad to see that - yet again ! - the all-important weekend was blessed with good weather.
