The subject of secret underground factories of the Third Reich - especially for aircraft production - is a most interesting and so far little-documented area of WWII interest. A very interesting site which explores the factories 'Richard I-III' in Czechoslovakia can be seen at ; - http://richard-1.com/ Yes, it's frustrating if you don't read Czech ( ) but click on the links marked 'podzemi' for some intruiging photos.....
Fascinating pictures nice link Martin as you say shame its in Czech but the pictures make up for that.
Any idea what they produced Martin ? I looked in a book that had a map of aircraft production centers in Germany but it did not include any Czech factorys. The closest thing was a Junkers plant in Breslau Germany. Nice find though.
ahh, forget the czech...just go online, and use a free translator...translate the page (copy and paste)... but very fascinating stuff, i do agree
Sorry, Ta - I haven't the faintest idea ! I've stored it at the back of my mind for further investigation. Another fascinating one is REIMAHG in Thuringia. Previously in East Germany, this is now being researched and opened to visitors by a local group. It was an enormous facility for producing the Me 262. The top of the mountain was levelled and completed aircraft were to be winched up from the factory complex and flown off with rocket assistance. In the event, only seven aircraft were completed here before the war ended. Sounds like a Bond movie, but it's true ! The website is at : http://www.reimahg.de/
Just arrived by mail from Canada - 'REIMAHG - From Sandpit To Armament Factory' by Claus Reuter. I'm looking forward to reading this as so little is available in English about the late-war German aircraft production facilities, and not even 'After The Battle' has covered many of them yet....
wow, i am fascinated with those facilities, because the fact they can build a large facility underground still today some tech from the 30s and 40s is still very fascinating
Yes you are right Fortune, I find it also very fascinating. They didn't have the technologies that we have but they built some incredible things. Nice link Thank you
