Nothing new at present. Still waiting on publishers to read and make offers.

He's doing well. I went to breakfast with him this past Saturday. He would not let me pay; said my money wasn't any good.

    His wife retires this Friday.

I'm pleased to hear that Old Hickory is doing well. Congrats to his wife on her upcoming retirement. I wish I was retiring this Friday.

Hopefully you'll hear soon on the book. I suppose that can be a tedious process.

Slipdigit, can you ask Old Hockory if he remembers a luitenant James Butler (120th). I saved newspapers from september 1984 about liberation of South of Holland (Limburg) and this name is mentioned there.

I'll ask him, but I don't expect Old Hickory to if the Lt. was not in Recon or has not come to reunions over the years.

Nothing on the book. Still waiting on publishers to decide their course of action.

Old Hickory is doing quite well; I talked to him last Sunday at church.

Here is a photo of Old Hickory. I guess I can tell you his name, as it will be on and in the book when it finally makes it to print - Marion M. Sanford.

He is third from the right, wearing the brown garrison cap. I also know the man on the far left. He is a veteran of Korea.

This picture was made Memorial Day, 2012.

Thanks for formally introducing Mr. Sanford to us, Jeff. It's great to finally put a face to the moniker of Old Hickory. :)

Well, the final edits are finished, the pictures are placed where the will go in the book and the cover design is sketched out. I still have to make the cover photo, which will look similar to the attached photo. There will be a few additional items with the photos, such as his old overseas cap, a divisional patch, maybe a ribbon or two. The idea is that he is looking at old photos and mementos at night and thinking about the war. The alignment of the photo group and book title is not final, as this cover is just a test to see if Mr. Marion liked the idea. He did.

Now to decide the publisher. It will be self published and I am deciding which way to go with it. My choices are a national self-publishing company such as Xlibris or Authorhouse or a local company that will print the books in lots of 150. Much to decide.

Verry nice. Congratulations....Perhaps in the future, this book would become public domain...Afraid this Poor will never be able to view. Perhaps I could order from our local library.

Outstanding Slip ! Made me go back to post #1 and start at the beginning. I wish I could have sat down with and recorded the stories from my family members and friends.

Thanks guys for the salutes, but a attaboy would have been good enough.:)

That will sometime well into the future. I plan on doing a digital version of the book. Maybe that will help you out.

Thanks Lou, much has changed since you tore into that early draft.

Thank Tommy. I plan to have it ready to sell by Veterans Day.

I know. I talked with and recorded my surviving grandparents in the mid-90s as they related their lives. It was great.
I wished I could have talked more with my great-grandfather who died when I was 13. He knew people who were orn prior to the Civil War.

Aw, you wouldn't deny us the opportunity to brown-nose a little, would you? ;)

Seriously, though. You're doing a good thing by helping Mr. Marion get his book published. I look forward to adding it to my collection of WW2 veteran memoirs. I'm also happy to hear about the digital version.
