While not a classic, I'd also give a nod to the main theme of The Bridge At Remagen.

I have the CD release of Where Eagles Dare and it's great to listen to in the car ! :D

One of my alltime most favorite War Movie themes is Klaus Doldingers (SP?) Das Boot. This oen is included with most of the above on a CD that is still available at Rhino music. They have a welldone CD which h as I think about 24 war movies themes.

Das Boot was a TV series before they did a cut down film version but I too like Das Boot and have the CD from it. Interesting style of music which breaks away from the norm.

Of course 3 4 and 5 are all related to ww2...Lawrence was behind the future dispositions of Middle East command

Zulu, taught the Welsh to sing, and without that they would not have been able to fight in ww2. As it is well known English troops would not share landing craft with Taffies that only knew Land of my Fathers.

    5. Vietnam, well where do we start...We handed back to French after ww2, French handed to USA...So its ww2 fault..

In fact all life as we know it is related to ww2... Thats my contention and I'm sticking to it...

See give peace a chance...John Lennon...

Did I waffle out of that Richard...think anyone noticed?

Hi Richard, your right and I think it was originally 6 hours long. Also, do you have that Rhino CD? If not? you'd love it. They have Where Eagles Dare, Guns of NAvarone, Longest Day and a slew of others. Oh and I think it also has Battle of Britain theme on it as well.

Based exclusevely on the musical quality, I'd go for the scores of:

    • Patton by Jerry Goldsmith
    • Braveheart by James Horner
    • Battle of Britain, battle scene music composed by Sir William Walton
    • 'Hymn to the Fallen' from Saving Private Ryan by John Williams
    • Enemy at the Gates by James Horner (the last decent thing he ever composed)
    • The Thin Red Line by Hans Zimmer
    • Black Hawk Dawn by Hans Zimmer
    • Schindler's List by John Williams

Not a movie, but the best war music ever came from Victory at Sea.

    Followed by:

    Battle of Britain
    Patton
    Schindler's List

1)The opening and closing music from Tora tora tora.
    2) The song in Kelly's heroes
    3) The theme music from The Dirty Dozen: the next mission.
    4) Bridge at remagen theme.
    5) The song that the German tankers sing[panzerfaust I believe] in The Battle of the Bulge.
    6) Theme from A bridge too far.
    7) Theme music from The winds of war.

Theme from 633 Squadron, a great movie which I haven't seen around for a long time. Most of us have seen something close to it though: the attack on the Death Star in the original Star Wars is copied almost frame for frame from the climax of 633.

The German song is the Panzerlied (tank song). Panzerfaust was an antitank weapon, a one-shot disposable launcher somewhat similar in concept to the US Army LAW.
