As long as they don't muck about too much I'm fine with the changes

Drag the format down into details. They have managed to put together a concept that allows you to be bit politician and bit military commander. If they dive into details in the military section it would hurt the format.

I really liked HoI2. I think the game engine was perfectly fine, I agree with Jaeger. Long as they don't really change it too much.

I think what they are doing with this new one is improving it vastly - they improved the map (more territories) so changed the unit system accordingly. It would be very hard to play HOI2 with the amount of territories to control in HOI3.

At any rate, I can't wait to get my hands on it!

The unit system was not good enough in my opinion. Naval units and some of the land brigades seemed like a total waste.

Some tech improvements were unbalanced, and upgrade time and cost likewise.

Manpower for air in particular was unbalanced.

In the end the flaws were needed to create a match engine that made the game playable.

I hope they manage to make a more balanced system that offers more choices for the players. the increase in territories should make it easier to recover if you goof, but could lead to endless armies of infantry beeing the way to play...

We all know that all PC games have flaws in some sort of way.

What I have seen from all the Dev Diaries, the improvments they have made seem to be focusing on those flaws in HOI2, while adding some interesting features.

I can't wait for this game!!!!

Having bothered to read up on the thread, I am doing a 180. It would seem that grouping corps and assignning army tasks is the soldier bit in the new game, and that seems to be a good plan. Let's hope they can deliver.

Please note I reserve the right to do do another 180 if I find something silly in the future...

Damnmnnnnnnnnn... Yugoslavia got owned. Here are some nations I'd like to play as:

    Italy (Thank you development diary!)
    France
    Germany
    England
Russia (swarms of suicidal infantry- doesn't get any better)
    Japan
    United States (who wouldn't?)
    Australia
    Spain
    Sweden (just because they're cool)

I can't wait to play this one, the customisable divisions will probably entertain me for hours.
The AI preview makes it sound like this one is going to be so much better than HoI2, we shall just have to see.

From what the website says, August 4th is the date of release.
