What do you think of more specialized missions in the game? Such as Commando raids to disrupt both production, radar sites, fortifications, airfields and so on. Mine laying in the ocean as the British did to create shipping lanes to disrupt enemy movements. What do you guys think.
I would also like an assasinations feature like in HoI II DD/AA. Except make it work, and allow you to use it against generals too. Meh, I've just been playing to much TW. And what is the point of those spritepacks they are selling? Nobody uses sprites, and you can get them for free in one of the many mods out there.
While it would be cool to have such things in the game, I think it would be rather hard to carry out unless they break the game down even more, creating even smaller territories and focus things on a regimental level, not divisional. The current 'scale' is too big for a Commando-raid to work properly. The game currently is 9,000 Soldiers to a Division Scale, whereas a Commando unit wouldn't top more then 24 - 50, given the nature of their missions. Perhaps if they created the unit like an air-unit, with a one-off attack similar to a bombing run, only greatly reducing the units Organization afterwards (and make them expensive to research and train for certain countries) so that you can't constantly use them. Defensive Units would have a Military Police score - the higher it is the less chance the Commandos have of being successful. It can be an aspect researched (both commando effectiveness and MP levels). Maybe even have the option to train the Commandos in various languages (English, German, Japanese, etc) which increases their effectiveness in certain areas.
There are a lot of little things they could have done better, such as user defined puppets. Rather than a puppet having a predefined set of territories allow the player to choose which ones out of that set to give to the puppet. There was a post talking about user defined theaters, but it said they would pretty much have to re-code the game to do that so we might see it in an expansion or something. I also think there are better ways to allow the player to organize the units, like attaching multiple divisions to a HQ at once.
I don't agree matt. I think it would work, see using commando's as an example. You could make research able technologies based on the commando's and tactics, and they could be used either only by airdrop like paratroopers or they have to be at a port with a submarine to deliver them. Once there they should not get penalties considering who they are and there training but at the same time they should take forever to reorganize and regain strength, since there will be only 100 or so men in the unit. The success of there attack must have a boat of shore to escape. IN terms of operational level many insurgent type units were involved in large scale invasions such as D-day both in the actual battle as well as battles leading up to the invasion so I think they should be in the game. Something else I thought off was that since you are in charge of the country both economically and militarily you should also have to give man power to POW camps and what not, I mean what happens to all those troops that are captured in the field? You never allocate any troops to it. Maybe it can be as simple as a slider under a new and different tab, perhaps something like Military support. This would include the hopefully new and improved supplies information such as the logistic set up as well as the supply depots, the POW camps and numbers and maybe support units on the sea such as mine sweepers and shot down aircrew retrieval or even the many patrol boats each nation had. You can even argue that since you build transport ships in terms of transporting units from one dry dock to another but a beach invasion requires different vessels such as assault craft and beach support craft. Since overall this still is what caused strain on the country and the country still have to manufacture this equipment and still had to allocate it to the said HQ's. I do agree though they can't go to indepth with it in fear of removing the grand strategy away from the game, but the assets you would get from it as well as the problems it would cause would be worth it I think.
I personally think artillery should work in a manner similar to aircraft, like you could tell it to bombard a province adjacent to it. Any rate, I've been playing as Italy recently (with the noneutrality cheat as I hate the neutrality mechanic). So far I'm neutral in the over all war as I have not sided with the allies, axis, or contern. My most recent victory was against Vichy France. I didn't realize that in game it had no ties to Germany what so ever, so I just took it. I did not realize the amount of territory I would gain from it. Sadly it only got me about 30 more IC, but still, that's 30 I didn't have before.
Soar, moved your gameplay help request posts to this thread. http://www.ww2f.com/hearts-iron/37681-hoi-3-gameplay-help.html
well I'm not entirely sure what the scale of the provinces are, so I'm not really sure how far "that far" would be.
Oh lawdy, I figured out how to edit the save files. I tested it on a save file with Finland and gave Finland 300 manpower and some random techs XD
