    Hey guys!
I was wondering about when Michael Wittman left the Leibstandarte to join the forming sSSPzAbt 101. What I know so far is that some of the Tiger Company with the Leibstandarte left in spring of 1944 to join sSSPzAbt 101, and some elements remained behind until April 1944, when the Leibstandarte was moved to the Western Front.
Some sources say that Wittman left the Eastern Front in early February 1944, before the Cherkassy relief and some say he left in early March 1944, before the Kamenets-Podolsk Pocket battles. I can't figure out which is the correct source.
Would anybody be able to help?
    Thanks in advance!
    Jon

I think your March source sounds more feasible because of the russian pushes that were going on all along the Eastern Front during the winter months and the Germans needed all the talent they could get in order to keep the front from being overrun and cracking apart. I also read in a book by gordon williamson (I believe)that Wittmann was transferred but I dont know the date.

    Thank you very much Carl!
This is the one thing that makes research frustrating, when different sources give different dates or numbers! When you have to compare and cross-reference everything to make sure you have the correct info!
Still though, I wouldn't trade Military History Research as hobby for anything!! [IMG] :D
    Thanks again!

Jon, quite welcome. I think Timo from Europe might have posted something about Wittmanns service here on the RKT Bios thread. Ill try scanning that thread later today and see if I can find anything--im positive that Timo did write something about him there as he kinda specializes on all the RKTs whop served in "LSSAH". He did an excellent job in his research on the subject.
