Next Japanese Leader Unapologetic Over War Against China Abe, who will turn 52 on September 21, has pledged to rip up reminders of World War II defeat -- particularly the US-imposed constitution which barred Japan from maintaining a military. Abe has refused to clearly detail his views on history but has signalled he questions the legitimacy of US-led trials of war criminals and feels Japan should stop apologizing for its past atrocities. http://www.spacewar.com/reports/Next_Japanese_Leader_Unapologetic_Over_War_Against_China_999.html
What never happened?- the Jap behaviour in Nanking, China was so bad that even A GERMAN NAZI diplomat was so shocked with what he witnessed there during the massacres that he provided help for potential Chinese victims there. Only in their treatmemnt of the Jews could the Japanese in W.W.2. be said to be superior to the German Nazis. Otherwise they made the word ''barbaric'' seem like comic understatement wherever they went. However, not all modern Japanes should be tarred with Mr Abe's brush. The modern Mayor and people of Nagasaki don't bear any grudges about the second A-Bomb attack on their city in 1945.
Brian, I imagined Za was being sarcastic about the thoughts of the Japanese leader. I thought the link he posted would be the ideal response to anyone who denies Japanese atrocities or attempts to claim victim status for them. Cheers, Adam.
Yes, Brian, as Adam noted I was being sarcastic. Or worse, sardonic as I can see no humour in these matters. We shall wait and see what Mr. Abe's outlook is and judge later.
Japanese culture and history are steeped in Racism. This comes from being an extremely isolationist, feudal island society. Much like the United States, that type of mentalitly still exists in Japan, although not openly or even consciously. So, this type of person emerging in modern times doesn't suprise me at all. I really do believe though that this type of mentality will, through the protests of the cooler heads, go by the way of say.......Austria Later
And yet, J.P. if you visit Fort William deep in the Scottish Highlands you will find a solid granite stone in the central park of that town presented by the Hiroshima Chamber of Commerce to Fort William inscribed ''Erected as a token of reconcilation and peace by the Hiroshima Chamber of Commerce. And the Mayor and people of that other nuked W.W.2 town Nagasaki, are regular visitors to Aberdeen, Scotland, and have pumped in hundreds of thousands of dollars into Aberdeen to ensure that William Glover's-the Scot who co-founded the Mitsubishi company of Zero fightr fame in the 19th century- mansion house in Aberdeen is preserved. Glover-San-the ''Tartan Samurai'' ia an honoured figure in modern Japan-his mansion in Nagasaki-which survived the Nuke of 1945- is a place of pilgrimage for a million visitors a year.
