Today I was victim of a hacker. I found out upon receiving my bank details that 300 euros were missing and when I called my bank , another 1000 euros were gone too .
I immediately stopped the transfers and could save at least 1000 and hope to get back the other 300 too . It will cost me 34 euros bank , fee , a new credit card and a lot of hassle and stress though, not to mention that I will have to go to my bank instead of enjoy my weekly flea market guest. :(

Apparently some trojan allowed a hacker into my credit card info while I was buying something on the net, depsite a so called 100% secure site.....

The money went to sites I have never heard of, like betting and casino sh...t.
My fire wall found the spyware, so I think the thread is over now.....

    Sorry about that, Remco. Yikes.

But, you know, the only way to completely secure your PC is to turn it off and unplug it from the wall.

That stinks, good luck on getting everything squared away. I live in semi-fear of that happening since I got the new "high speed" hook-up, but I have been "assured" by both my Credit Union and the carrier that this won't/shouldn't be a concern.

As a precaution there is a "limit" on my plastic, and anything over a certain amount is not authorized without my personal voice approval at my home phone #. Also covered by "passwords". Probably not fool proof, but at least I don't feel as vulnerable as I did in the past.

Hi Skipper, sorry about your having been a victim of some slimeball. A similar thing happened to me about 5 years ago. Some lazy jackass ran up my Sears Creditcard about $3,000 worth, bought things like a Coocoo Clock from Germany, and a pair of eyeglasses that were adorned with Diamonds. Anyway, I had that credit card all but paid off-minus about $50 bucks still on it-and when I got my next statement in from Sears-I was flabbergasted to see thatit was maxed out.

I was told the only way to take care of this was to either-pay the bill (which I wwas more than determined not to do) or to file a Police Report-which I did-and then I did everything else I was advised to do. It took over a year of fighting and haggling-but I got $2,500 in charges removed but I still had to pay that other $500. I paid them and then shreaded that credit card. I still have three others but-they al know wat I only use them for-so there is ZERO excuse for this crap to happen to me again. I told them I want a "red Flag" to be raised when they see something purchased on my card-that is something I never use them for-such as gasoline, dining out-and other stuff.

Anyway, I wish you the best at getting your money back. Also, another thing happened to me in the last few months. I had purchased $452.00 worth of photos from a European dealer-and never got any of the pics in-and all I got were nothing but lies and excuses and promises. To date, I have managed to get most of the money back-only through theats and such. I was just this morning-promised the remaining $130.00. I wrote that money off long ago and will only believe it when i see the cash in my hand.

    Take care--Carl.

PS, you wanna know one of the threats I used is? ;-)) I threatened to sick Interpol after his butt. The guy was running scared shipless-to say the least-not realizing I was lying through my teeth at some of the actions I was threatening to do :-D

Hi Clint, I do exactly the same thing your doing-both on my Credit Cards as well as my bank accounts. Every place knows what I use certain cards and accounts for-so if any wierd purchases are made-im to be immediately notified. My Credit Union is great about it as well as one of those two credcard places is.

Sorry, you are going through that Remco.

I hate using my credit card for anything online. We usually advise the credit card company when we are going anywhere. I know they follow up on charges, as one spring I went to three or four garden centres spending a little freely and there started being holdups at the last couple of places because they phone my home and checked with my husband whether it was legitimate. Needless to say he knew what I'd been spending and I was flabergasted since it is my card!

    Macrusk /Skipper(Remco)???(guessing it's you're real name,sounds cool to me)

Yes,it's a bad feeling when this occurs, and hope this looks up for the both of you! That's horriable have to think about you're private banking details. I feel for both of you guys.

I get bad feelings when i am drawing money out of the ATM,i think there is a camera just above spying on my pin number and also that the ATM is frud by taking the card details down and giving it to the criminals!

I had a nice talk with my banker and they said they could provide temporary virtual credit cards that have a very short time limit and could be only valid for one transaction. This way no-one could add additional sums. It's quite tempting . I hope they won't charge extra money for that service, but I would be surprised if they don't.

This morning I will go to the bank and bring the written opposition orders to confirm what I said on the phone. It was a terrible day.

After my day of work I assisted at a commemoration ceremony for an American aircrew , but had only a good hour to put on my favourite suit and drive there, then I got this bad news and had to make a bunch of emergency phone calls before I could even go. Fortunately I made it on time. I'm glad I went: it emptied my head from all this hassle. I hate those who are too lazy to work and parasite those who are paying taxes for their welfare in the first place. I'm glad I went to the ceremony and could see many good people too, it really made me feel better and when I was confronted to what the WWII soldiers went through, my problems seemed so meaningless compared to their ordeal.

that was the first thing I did Erich. I changed it yesterday, the trouble is if someone used the old numbers a few days before the numbers were cancelled . The bank has instructions not to let those through, but they have to filter the genuine older transactions first and I just hope they won't let anyhting through until June 30st. It's only when I get my new transcript early July that I will be relieved , IF nothing else happens

Apparently it is getting a pretty common things these days. I have several friends who told me the same thing. I'm quite reluctant to pay through the internet now, and would rather not throw my new number on line for a while.

Sorry to hear about that Skipper!

I have read that some hackers did get their info from the credit card companies by breaking into their files, and not only did these hackers use it themselves but also are selling the info further to other criminals...you can just imagine how many card details could be available to be used by these people....

First of all, my simpathies to you Skipper. It's a total invasion of privacy and I hope (unlikelly as it is) that the crook will someday be caught or, has a really serious accident.

Here in Portugal there was a bloke who specialised in that kind of operations. However, he was smarter than the average joe. He only stole something like 5c at a time from one account. He hacked into thousands tough. The thing is, he got greedy and eventually got caught. Who would complain when 5c have disapeared from your account right?
In Portugal we have something that is called a virtual credit card. You can adjust the amount of time it is available (I use one day for example) and the maximum limit it can use (I generally use the same amount I'm going to purchase) so, even if they get your card number, normally it is already maxed out and, when they get to use it, it has probably expired by then. Makes online shopping that much safer.

    Cheers...

cheers for the kind words guy Iwill voodoo the bastard who stole my money and hope he gets the pox .

The virtual credit card is nice but it is not valid for every transction (you can't buy train tickets, plane tickets or holidays with those for instance). Ohterwise it's interesting and the low fee (6 euro a year) makes it attractive.

Hi Skipper, my sympathies with your credit troubles. I had a similar occurrence only a two years ago. Turned out to be a pain in the @$$. I only use a bank card now. A little safer as if there is no money in the account I can not buy anything with it. Even if it happens again the amount is limited greatly. Good luck recovering your funds.

Hi Mike, that's what I was thinking of doing-using only a banking card. I do have one with my Fed Cred Union but have never activated it yet. My credit could be better but is not bad enough to where I coulodn't walk into ony car rental agency-or something liek that. It's nice to have the credit I do have-but I don't want to be one of those Billions who fall int the credit card trap. The hogwash that is so hyped about it is "oh you can't build credit without having credit cards." Well, that aint so. The best way to do so is to get loans from your bank-which is how I built up mine even though I have not wanted nor needed a loan from them in about 12 years now.
