Here is a B17 & B24 that were in Mansfield in 1997. I got there too late to get shots of the fronts of the planes. I was standing behind he B24 when it started its engines. Got covered in a fine mist of oil but it was worth it!!!
Great shots none the less. Im partial to B-17s since my Dad served in them as a Ball Turret Gunner from sometime in 44 to wars end.
Thank you Carl. My wifes grandfather flew in a few bombers during the war. He was with the 1035th Signal Company attached to the 15th AAC. I am thinking the B-24`s but am not too sure. I always liked the B-17`s as well. It was a real treat watching it start up and take off.

Nice shots Clint. The one photo reminds of the one movie (can`t remember the name of it right now) where the 3 vets come home, the guy in the navy that lost his arms, Army Sgt. and the Air Corps pilot. Thought of the part of the movie where he climbs up into the bomber and has a flashback. I bet I have seen that movie a dozen times, just can`t think of the name of it....

Great flick. Dana Andrews' character coming home having to take a job as a soda jerk, after flying a bomber over Europe. What a let-down that had to be.
I flew in this B17 which along with a B24 tours the country offering short flights. The Collings foundation has a website where the schedules are listed. They claim that the B24 is the only currently flying liberator. I noticed that it costs $425 to fly now. In 2004 when I flew at Love Field inn Dallas it was a bargain at $250. I signed up and showed up early for my flight. By being first there I was in the first flight which I recommend, cause you get to sit on the plane while it powers up. The subsequent flights you hop on and take off, so the pre-flight was worth it.
