I am going to assume that there are no longer any flag grade officers from the war still living. I haven't been able to discover any, but I have no real way of knowing about Russians, for instance.

Gen David Jones, veteran of WW2 and a Doolittle raider, died last November, but he was only a COL in WW2. Most likely he might have made General but he spent the last 2 years or so as a prisoner in Stalag Luft III.

Anyway, any candidates as last living Generals or Admirals of WW2?

    Thanks.

Untill recently, there were (for the Germans) Admiral Friedrich Kemnade, Otto Kumm (LAHs) last C.G, and another KM gents whose name slips from my thoughts at this moment. I know there are or recently were others. A few years ago-we lost David Lee "Tex" Hill, who was a Brigadier in WWII. I met him at a huge Militaria and Gun Show in San Antonio not long before he passed away. Great Gent to talk with and we did so for about 30 minutes o so? We also had a great lengthy chat with "Dutch" Van Kirk-the Enola Gays Navigator.

If I can think of some more names-ill post them.

Thanks. Looks like I just missed some. I would guess the most likely candidates would be Russians (large Army, but low life span) or Japanese (long life span)?

I couldn't say for the Japanese or Russians but, I heard that there were a few from the UK stillliving as well as a few other Amis. I just don't know their names. I do know that certain "key" officers are still living 0 just can't think of their names off hand either.

Great Avatar choice BTW. I "cut" my teeth on WWII stories by collecting Sergeant Rock comicbooks. Damned shame they cancelled that series so many years ago. Two of my favorite Sgt. Rock artists are both Joe Kubert (his creator) and Russ Heath.

The universe of people that remember Sgt Rock while not as small as the group of living WW2 flag grade officers is on the same track. I have bought a couple of copies of "Our Army at War" on Ebay just for the joy of seeing Rock and the dogfaces of Easy company again.

I will have to nickname you "Ice Cream Soldier." <grin>

I thought aout buying some Rock issues on ebay and looked a bit. I need to fill in a lot of holes in the collection. I think I pretty much have most all of the issues when the books name was changed to Sgt. Rock.

Ice Cream Soldier is fine by me. I always liked that character, as well as the others like Jackie Johnson, Bulldozer, Little Sure Shot and Wildman. I can't remember any other "Easy Company" characters names (of the regulars) if there were more? It's been way too long since I last read them. I have most of the Sgt. Fury and His Howling Commandoes series as well.

I was also guilty of buying G.I Combat, The Unknown Soldier, The Losers, Blackhawk-and other long oop titles. I also used to buy those Sgt. Rocks Prized Battle Tales Digests as well.

I have quite a few of the OOAW books-but not enough to be satisfied ;-))

One of my most favoite Rock issues was called: Generals Are Segeants Without Stars. Do you remember the German character called: the Iron Major? The issue that featured that character-was the first Sgt. Rock comic I bought off the shelves.
