It isnt particularily wwii exclusive but if you drove your army into a city what would be your first objectives in gaining complete control? So far i've come up with, secure the hospitals, police stations, barracks, city hall, bridges, banks, airport and docks, rail and bus stations/garages,main roads in and out of city.
1.Docks 2.Bridges 3.Airports 4.Main Roads through town/Rail track 5.Armory/Ammunition depots 6.Gas Stations/Food/Lodging 7.Clothing and hot showers (morale boost)
well the squads have radio men, and in the homes there should be phones so I dont know if communication centers are a priority but i could be wrong
Capture the comms centers and you can stop the enemy issuing general orders to distant units, thus disrupting or stopping any attempt at a co-ordinated response. Imagine the disruption that can be caused if you capture a cities central telephone/comms exchange.
Let's say we're taking a port city like Cherbourg. First: 1. Cut off the enemy's supply/reinforcement route. 2. Completely circle the town. 3. Off-shore bombardment (too risky however if the port is vital) 4. Send in recon teams to map out the city. 5. Capture the enemy's communication building. 6. Capture/destroy the enemy's barracks/tank depots. 7. Capture the enemy supply yards/buildings. 8. Take the bridges and roads to limit enemy movement. 9. Take all airports/aerial stations. 10. Lodging, resource & ports. 11. Finally, make a smashing charge at the enemy command center. (Yes, a veryyyyyy long list of objectives.) I managed to make this list because my friend made a "siege the city" type map for Company of Heroes. He's almost always defended, trying all these different tactics, mostly just laying mines all over the place with Anti-Tank riflemen, tanks and cannons across the city. But usually calling in a lot of artillery and howitzers clears them out easyyy. I've won virtually every single time
I'd take the main comunication routes first. Generally they'll take me to the Port, airport, markets, every building that matters. Oh and for the added bonus of dividing the enemy forces. In the uprising of Madrid against the French ocupiers, the french used this tactic to gain control of the city rendering the Spanish (probably the only city in Spain where you can call their inhabitants spanish) militias unable to rally to one point breaking the resistance efforts in no time. Cheers...
Yeah,i completely forgot about fuel depots etc. The communication network would be a good thing to get hold of too so you could issue directives and issue statements to the local populace. Also forgot about securing lodging and the firestation. Mastahcheef;on you point of doing recon,i think a lot would depend on how much preperation time the defenders had, given the choice i would would rather seize my objectives without delay,
I'd capture whatever I'd been ordered to capture. All these lists are fine but it depends on the operation, what you're doing there, and what's actually there. If it's left up to the OC on the spot it'd very likely be a bar next to a whorehouse.
Now that is what I call tactics , even though I feel that the brothel is of strategic interest. Regards Kruska
Drove my army into a city...I already have complete control. Go get a drink. You guys play too much warcraft.
