"BERLIN — Monday is the anniversary of the July 20, 1944, plot to kill Hitler, and services will be held here, as they are every year, where the conspirators were executed.

"Among those remembered, Count Fritz-Dietlof von der Schulenburg may not ring many bells these days outside Germany, or even inside it. Others came to be famously associated with the plot. But as the German historian Hans Mommsen wrote, 'Schulenburg was the inner driving force of the conspiracy.'

"Schulenburg’s sister, Countess Elisabeth von der Schulenburg — Tisa, as she was called — was an artist. They constituted an extraordinary pairing.
The Schulenburgs were a very old, very high Prussian clan, staunchly Nazi, and as such a reminder of the complexity of families, not least German ones, aristocratic or otherwise. Their story is a cautionary tale about judging history, or a people, any people, in black and white."

We in my area, will be extremely lucky to just hear a news story on this since apparently Michael Jackson is still being covered by most news stations. The latest news being how many fleas his pet Dog has on its tail-kinda thing.

    Hello kerrd5,

sorry but I can't follow on the link between High-Born Prussians Who Defied Their Origin and Fritz-Dietlof von der Schulenburg. He never defied his origin of being a member of an aristocratic Prussian Family.

He joined the NSDAP in 1932. He started to dispute and quarrel with his superior Erich Koch on political issues. As such he was demoted by sending him into the countryside in 1934, were he continued to oppose the Nazi system until he was banned from the NSDAP in 1939.

After that he joined the resistance movement against Hitler and the NSDAP.

    Regards
    Kruska

It is possible, if not probable, that Chinese authorities had blocked your
    access to the Times website.

I think it's his sister who's the most remarkable of the pair, but even then not really beyond the boundaries of Prussian toff activities.

    Interesting link though.
