If you could fly a fighter plane in the Pacific, which one would you fly?

I would use the F6F Hellcat for it has the speed to keep up with the A6M Zero and has a much better engine than the F4F Wildcat.

P 38 for me. F6F was a great plane but finding an airfield that keeps moving in the middle of the Pacific. No thanks. I like the idea of two engines as well. Good visibility and tricycle gear. Performance wasn't bad either.

LOL.......I am out pending an appeal, besides it was a "yellow card". It may have been a misunderstanding with my Parole Officer.

P-38s are nice planes. The downside is that they don't have a bayonet lug like the Corsair.

Too bad I'm not from Texas.... but if I was, this choice would make more sense! Soft spot for the P-47 Thunderbolt. "Go big, or go home!"

    Morning Bobby,

I forget if you work swings or graves.... anyways, yeah I was in San Antonio and Amarillo about a month and a half ago... I went to San Anton to see a buddy graduate from basic in the Air Force at Lackland AFB. They have quite the plane selection on base... one being the P-47 Thunderbolt. The others that I can remember were the B-17 Flying Fortress, B-29 Superfortress, P-51 Mustang, P-38 Lightning, F4U Corsair and many more!

take care and have a good shift

I guess my choice would be somewhere in the mainland US teaching others in an outdated Buffalo. Less time taking enemy fire, more time staying safe.

I work the night shift, 1700-0500, but we make relief 30 minutes prior. It's real quiet, and it gives me plenty of time to read and post, which is fine with me.

My neice seemed to party herself out of college and lost all her scholarships, and is contemplating going into the Air Force too. When I read that you went to visit your buddy who graduated from basic there, I remembered that you went down there on your road trip. Just checking in you know.

Know what? I think the P-61 would be a kick. Very heavily armed, quite maneuverable for it's size, and the R2800 engines.

And of course, hunting by night!
