The only tarrantino flicks i did like before basters were the grindhouse flicks. didn't get the whole big deal over pulp fiction, reservoir dogs was just boring, fell asleep 2x before i could finish it, and hell riders i didn't like either.
A wise person in China (;-)) asked me to watch it-so its possible I will be plaing it in my Netflix queue. No-the Dali Lama was not the wise Sage who asked me to watch it
For all those 'haters' out there or people who refuse to watch it (i think some of you are being too critical, expecting one type of WW2 movie while it is quite the opposite) take a look at this: At last nights 'Screen Actors Guild Awards Show', Ingolorious Basterds won the aware for best Ensemble and Waltz (the lead German Nazi) won the award for Best Supporting Male Actor (in a movie/miniseries/TV). It was also his first American Movie (he has been in 50-odd german movies) so not bad at all for him! Me and my room mate looked him up too - he is from Austria, fluent in German, English and French, and also imitates Italian extraordinarily well. His son is also a Rabbi, though Waltz is not Jewish himself.
Just watched the movie today. It was amazing. The last 10-15 mins of the movie really surprised me. Great film.
Hi Ike, sorry about missing this post first time around. You are playing it safe though by using Netflix. Through them I have been able to save my money on a few Duds.
SAG is full of nut-jobs who vote to be politically correct. That even more than confirms to me that I.B, is a crap movie.
One thing I must say that they did quite well was the dialogue , almost each scene was extremely tense which was shown well.
reservoir dogs is a great movie. pulp fiction---ehhh, ok the kill bills? no thanks Tarantino isn't a guy that is going to make films for anyone else but himself. He's been extremely lucky his whole career that many people have the same taste that he has. The folks that do? Great! you get treated to some movies that you love...those don't like his movies? Don't watch! Your choice and you certainly shouldn't be chastised for it.
I agree. Hollyweird is the bastion of right-wing and PC propaganda. They vote for themselves for their awards and what they want to promote (examples: It Takes A Village, An Inconvenient Truth, and any crap that Michael Moore produces). I'm surprised that El Presidente didn't get an oscar nod for something this year to go along with his Nobel Piece Prize. Anyway, it really doesn't matter what they do. It's a show like everything else in their dreamworld, and so is the awards ceremony. I have read that Brad Pitt is connected to a movie production depicting the exploits of Wendell Fertig. Fertig was one of the most, if not the most successful US guerilla leader in the Philippines (Mindinao in particular). It's an excellent story, and I suggest y'all read up on him and his activities. Why a movie on his efforts haven't been made yet I don't know. I hope and pray that Tarantino doesn't have anything to do with it, but have no problem with Brad Pitt portraying him. He did an excellent job in that Benjamin Buttons movie, so I am looking forward to it.
OH we just watched Benjamin Button...we loved it as well. The first part was creepy though, with his strange little self!
Tarantino....biggest fraud in Hollywood. Another attempt at glorification of violence. If some young 'punk' shot him, he'd probably scream like a stuck pig. Make a real war film Quentin. Something that shows WW2, not just some 'pulp' version of it.
I liked the flick. Had a good laugh, but not missing the undertones of it all. Nice when such flicks come out that takes the piss. Churchill the Holliwood years made a point on pretencious rubbish made to make money.
Well, the DVD finally made it to the bargain shelves of my local supermarket so bought a copy. Sorry everyone, maybe I just wasn't in the mood or I don't get the joke ; but I thought it was a pile of ****. Even taken as a comic-strip wish-fulfilment, it left me totally unmoved. I couldn't actually make it to the end...... ....and watched The Hurt Locker instead.
I really like most of Tarantino's films. I was skeptic about seeing this one though, and honestly, I don't see why everyone thinks its so great. A Tarantino movie (and I am speaking from an english speaking American perspective here) is well known for it's great quotable lines. For example, I can ramble off three quarters of "Pulp Fiction" easy from memory. But a Tarantino movie with half of the movie in German and French does not work with me. Don't get me wrong, I have no problem with sub-titled movies, just as long as its not a Tarantino (or at least not half of the movie). Kill Bill had Japanese and Chinese subtitles, but only about ten minutes or so throughout the film. Furthermore, I have a feeling that if there was a sequal, with Brad Pitt's team torturing regular Japanese soldiers, it would get as good reviews.
