Lori, I just checked that forum, and it seems to also be closed to me. If you look at the very bottom of the page, it gives Posting Rules. I suspect that that forum is meant only for first hand accounts. Check with Slipdigit, if you are posting your father's words, I'm sure he'll open it to you. Good luck.

Thanks for seeking out the answer for me. I'll shoot off PM and see what happens. Thanks!

EDIT: Added an album to my profile. Just some stuff he had in a scrap book.

It's a watch tower that was in the Fort Miles Historical Area in Lewes Delaware. I went there last year...and stumbled upon this place while biking in Cape Henalopin (spelling) State park. There were several watch towers along the coast, a gun battery and barracks. I'll have to post some pics from that. :)

At Ft. Miles they do a lot of tours in the summer...a lantern tour of the battery, re-enactments, and one major re-enactment of a German sub surrendering there after the war ended. I think they said it was only about 25 miles off coast.

I didn't get to take dad to any of the tours yet...hopefully next summer.

EDIT: HA...I just read the web site I linked....and I guess they are "Fire Control Towers". :) I guess I was thinking more... Smokey the Bear fires...lol Lewes is just a ferry ride away from Cape May.

Yep, all part of the same fort. I'll try Lewes soon. I'd be interested to see the re-enactments.
