Oh Texson, the clue is in who is reporting it....Council owned swimming pools, hire out the facilities. Have done for years...They also have whats called session times for pensioners only...Naturist...dem der naked folks who swim in the nude...They are all customers who pay for block bookings. I dont know about this lot, but bet that what it is....If you go to the Scuba diving session you have to wear scuba suits...You do the pensioner one you show your card...You do the women only one then you wear a bikini or full body suit. You go to the light show one and dating one in some places and you must be single....dont know how they check that one though....Fox news..fair and balanced....Fox news...Hide the full story more like.

In fact a quick check of my 3 local council run facilities show following....Mounts leisure pool offers facilities overnight during festival of Eide as part of session bookings.

Danes Camp leisure pool is currently offering pole dancing lessons both in and out of water....I'm objecting to that one then.

Mounts still offer nudist sessions...I'm definatelly exercising my right not to attend that one.

Disable only sessions are offered at Lings Forum. Only carers allowed in pool with disabled patrons.

Children and adult only sessions also available.

    Pensioner only sessions available.

Party bookings also taken incuding hire of pools.

Seems anyone who wants to pay for sessions or block book are allowed to do just what they like.

I don't see why. Muslims using public facilities is fair enough, they're members of the public. It's those few wandering around with bombs that are a problem.

Does that mean what I think it means? If so, then remind me to carefully check the schedules at British pools if I should ever have the opportunity to visit one. (I'm just imagining urqh at a pole dancing lesson...Flee! Flee!)

The explanation is quite simple - we have many Polish guests in our Country.....;)

Woooh, first our swimmingpools (for an hour a week) then parliament eh?

Come on, as Urqh pointed out they have simply organised sessions at the local pool for a particular interest group, just like the sessions for women where men are not allowed in, or for lane swimming when pleasure swimmers aren't allowed in. Makes sense to me.

So yeah, the title of the article is missleading as the restrictions don't apply to all swimmers, simply those willing to swim at certain times. It is only limited number of councils who have done this, apparently those in certain areas with a large Islamic population.

I don't know what's more dangerous, genuine fundamentalists who stir up trouble among Islamic communities or the idiotic newspapers who stir up trouble amongst the more moronic of their readers, people who simply take the first two lines of the article as gospel and don't bother to look for factual errors because they relish more fuel for their mindless prejudice and idiotic indignation.

    Stefan-
Sorry, but your link says more about you than it does about the Daily Mail.
I loved the quote: "We're here to tell Daily Mail readers they're being lied to". Nothing like ramming your own opinion down other people's throats.
This must be the only country in the world where self-righteous mouthpieces mount campaigns against newspapers because they don't like what's in them.......and then scream long and loud about "freedom of speech" when it suits them.

Gordon, things are printed in the newspapers these days which are quite simply lies, failing that they simply distort the truth, misquote people or give half the story. I think you'll find that nobody is ramming their opinions down other peoples throats, simply pointing out when other folks are making things up.

Hell, look at an array of typical headlines from today:

'A-levels are so easy a monkey could be trained to do them, say teachers'
No, a teacher said that, a straightforward lie. Not a major issue but exactly the kind of thing they blow out of all proportion

'Ainsworth says Afghanistan could be sorted out 'in a year''
No he didn't, he said that things would be better 'in a couple of years,' moreover he made it clear that he was referring to a level of stability sufficient for us to reduce our military committment, though further intervention through other means would still be necessary.

    One from the express yesterday:
'Our wounded do not count: MOD keep no statistics for injured heroes.'
A total lie, every month I see the casualty list which includes everything from dysentry or a broken finger to fatal injuries. The MOD keep massive and very detailed lists of injured soldiers so this is completely untrue.

Then of course there is the 'bad science' being put out on a weekly basis, the attempt to divide everything in the world into 'things that cause cancer' and 'things that don't' which so often wind up being total fabrications.

So feel free to judge me based on the fact I don't blindly believe most of the trash spread by this vile mag but frankly anyone that does needs to ask themselves some serious questions. Read the thing with any degree of sense and it soon becomes clear you are being lied to.

I believe in freedom of speech however I also feel it is important to point out when so called 'newspapers' parade lies as the truth. It isn't a question with disagreeing with what is in them (though oh so often the reporting is so misleading it is actually dangerous), it is a question of pointing out lies.

And neither do I. However, I do tend to worry about people who get obsessive over the perceived "lies" of any particular newspaper.

Simply the worst culprit in recent times with the most obvious agenda and usually the worst liar.

Broadsheets are far from immune to this, particularly science reporting where they quite often simply make up things because they haven't understood them.

    Images and headlines sell papers.

Sadly there are plenty of people who need to read something outlandish and get miss page 3 before they can start their day.

There was an intersting discussion on the telly two years ago on the subject of populism. The tabloids portrayal of Black and White reality seemed to be popular because people wanted life to be simpler. Shouting outrage at somebodys faults is order of the day. Coming up with a suitable alternative seemed a bit worse for them.

Exactly, it is certainly one of the most dangerous trends in human nature. Just look at the 'Baby P' fiasco, the calls for blood drowned out any attempt to actually punish those who were to blame, this and similar incidents are destroying public services and creating even more titles for papers.

In a recent court case the owner of one of our major papers lost a libel case. It was shown in court how he used his paper to mount attacks on people who upset him.

Press baron Richard Desmond loses high court action against biographer | Media | The Guardian

    extract:
"Thwaites was eventually allowed to play to the jury a tape of a phone call from July 2008, in which Desmond (The Newspaper owner) issued a threat to a business contact. In this conversation, Desmond warned he could be "the worst fucking enemy you'll ever have". Three days later a libellous article appeared in the Sunday Express about the contact and his hedge fund, Pentagon Capital Management."

Free Press? I think not. You never get the paper owners printing the dirt on each other, they know that the retaliation will be swift.
Private Eye prints all the bits that the owners censor

We moved to the UK in the 1950's. like most Irish families there were lots of us. 6 of us and 7 in my Uncles family. This was the norm in Ireland at the time but not for the UK.
Not one of those 13 kids have more than 3 of their own.
Moral? Birth rate in the country of origin does not relate to birth rate in country of adoption
